Senior Software Designer Java - London

6 months + extensions (Urgent role, ideally to start within two weeks.)

Day rate Neg D.O.E

My client requires a Senior Software Designer whose expertise lies in Java development projects ideally working on Identity & Access management (IAM) platform for financial services. In this role you will have ownership of development activities across the project in the security enabler platform and associated streams. You will need to start from the analysis of business requirements, developing technology roadmap and high-level design, Review of Low-level design, coding, unit testing, developing automation scripts (testing & deployment), aiding high-level design, aiding other testing and implementation phases from a technical delivery perspective till the end of post-implementation support.

Key deliverables:

  • Analyse requirements, perform impact analysis & estimates, Detail/low-level design, build and unit test the code within given timelines;
  • Own the specific parts of a solution from design and development through to test and implementation should understand agile methodology and work in iterative scrums.
  • Decompose design into development plan tasks and provide accurate estimation of effort.
  • Regular and ad-hoc reporting to status/progress to Manager, including escalation of issues and exceptions. Should have clear articulation of progress against a plan. Escalate, clearly define and own issues through to resolution.
  • Explore new technologies and tools and come up with efficient solution suiting project need.
  • Interaction with various business/project stakeholders throughout the full project life cycle and with other IT teams as appropriate.
  • Application of RBS Change Framework and Standards, including use of Agile Methodology where appropriate
  • Carry out Peer Reviews to ensure that quality goals are met around project deliverables.
  • Support implementation activities, create SOE and adhere to RBS technical standards
  • Mentor and develop other team members both in domain and technical side.
  • Work with suppliers/vendors on designated areas
  • Enable technical knowledge sharing across team

  • Collaborate closely with teams in London and India, at different seniority levels, in a fast-paced environment

Essential Skills

  • B.E./M Tech/MCA/MBA from a reputed institute; at least four years of experience in Agile and scrum methodology
  • Hands-on Java/J2EE technologies experience, Web Services, Middleware technologies.
  • Carry out Peer Reviews to ensure that quality goals are met around project deliverables.
  • Experience working in a distributed environment (Mainframes, Linux, Unix, Windows) with diversified technologies and integrating various systems.
  • Experience in working with LDAP, database and SQL queries
  • Expert knowledge and development of diagrams and methodologies using Microsoft Visio and PowerPoint applications.
  • Web Services/SOA (Service Oriented Architecture)
  • Experience of designing large scale enterprise applications.
  • Skills with Configuration management tools (Artifactory and team city preferred)
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills; good knowledge of Quality Centre, Zephyr
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Must be a fast learner and able to work under tight deadlines
  • Strong team player; organized, capable of multi-tasking, and willing to shift priorities to meet business needs

It would be advantageous if you had prior experience/understanding of IAM and experience in the financial services industry and/or RBS.
