Corporate Accountant

4 Month Contract

Glasgow

Our public sector client has an interesting contract opportunity for an experienced Corporate Accountant to join their Edinburgh based team for a 4 month initial contract.

You will assist the Deputy Director of Finance in order to achieve financial balance for the organisation. You will also be responsible for producing a summarised financial report, reconciled to the general ledger, and explanation of associated variances for the Deputy Director of Finance on a monthly basis.

Other responsibilities include:

* Responsibility to produce monthly budget statements for the Technology and Central Operating departments and meet with budget holders to discuss these, highlighting variances and helping to identify actions to resolve potential issues.

* Produce a monthly report on capital expenditure. Liaise with Facilities Manager and Chief Information Officer to get updates on progress with capital projects throughout the year.

* Respond timeously to queries for financial and non-financial information from directorate budget holders assessing the nature of the query and exercising discretion and initiative in determining the appropriate action.

* Designing and developing relevant financial models in order to support budget holder needs.

* Assisting and actively contributing to the annual budget setting process through consultation with budget holders and the Deputy Director of Finance, as well as providing input for reforecasting and budget updates during the year.

* Assist with the Annual Accounts exercise.

* Assist with the Strategic Planning Resource Allocation process.

* Assist with the Five Year Financial Plan process.

* Work with budget holders to identify and quantify efficiency savings.

* Line Manager for two management accountants assisting them with their duties and providing training where necessary.

* Act as Risk Lead for the Finance team.

* Advise project team on matters of financial governance and processes to be followed in relation to incurring expenditure.
