Financial Control Manager (NHS experience essential) - 3 months - Gillingham - £300 a day (inside IR35)

You will be a senior member of the Financial Services team and will lead on all aspects of financial accounting and reporting. You will also be expected to help ensure a robust control environment is maintained, drive process improvements and undertake ad-hoc projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Production of monthly Board Report, including I&E, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow statement and relevant KPIs.
  • Preparation of statutory and other returns (including NHSI reporting) and related working papers in line with accounting standards, policies, the Group Accounting Manual(GAM) and audit specifications; including leading on the annual accounts process.
  • Responsible for the development of financial policies & procedures, including interpretation and implementation, in line with statutory and NHS guidelines.
  • Provides specialist advice and guidance on the interpretation of financial accounting policies and procedures.
  • Provide expert advice to the senior finance team on technical accounting matters; interpretation and application of accounting standards and good practice.
  • Lead the month and year-end close process, including reducing the close-down period and improving the analysis and explanations of the results.
  • Overall responsibility for the integrity of the balance sheet, this includes control account reconciliations, including reviewing and signing-off those prepared by others within the team and assisting in the investigation and resolution of differences or aged items.
  • Overall responsibility for VAT matters, including providing expert advice on impact and recovery, preparation and filing of monthly VAT returns and liaising with external VAT advisors, implementing their recommendations and development of relevant processes and procedures.
  • Key contact for internal and external auditors, managing communication and co-ordinating the explanations and analysis as required.

Experience Required

  • A professional accountancy qualification (eg ACA, ACCA, CIMA) including current membership to relevant body.
  • In depth knowledge of statutory and professional financial reporting guidelines and requirements, including month and year-end closing and working with internal and external auditors.
  • An understanding of and ability to implement financial and process controls such as GL account reconciliations, segregation of duties; and controls over expenditure.
  • General ledger management and use of accounting systems.
  • Extensive working knowledge of IFRS
  • Experience of working in the NHS
