External Relations Adviser (Public Affairs) - London - £425 per day.

Large financial services provider based in central London require a Public Sector PR Consultant on a 12 month contract basis.

As part of the External Relations team, reporting to the Vice-President of Government Relations for Europe, you will assist and develop strategy to shape the policy and regulatory environment. This is a challenging and exciting role where you can use your research and knowledge to identify risks and opportunities, execute engagement and influencing plans, respond to external changes, and manage key stakeholder relationships. You will form trusted relationships to influence policy/legislation involving issues consistent with the business interests and objectives.

Day to day, the Public Affairs Consultant will:

  • Work closely with the VP of European Government Relations to manage and deliver engagement with policy-makers and opinion formers across Europe;
  • Research and develop positions supporting the companies government relations objectives, which include development of policy briefing documents, talking points, and policy white papers as needed;
  • Draft submissions to consultation processes, as well as provide shorter briefs for internal use;
  • Assist with the implementation of reputational initiatives;
  • Work effectively with colleagues in other departments, including legal, marketing, and operations to maximise government relations objectives.

Required Skills of the external relations adviser:

  • Degree-level education
  • Five years or more working in Public Policy/government relations
  • Thorough understanding of the legislative/political process
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience creating and effectively delivering factual, relevant and easily understandable talking points and other messaging
  • Ability to interact effectively with a wide range of external audiences and with company management
  • Experience or sound understanding of financial services sector is an advantage;
  • Ability to analyse and understand the impact of external changes
  • High attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask and prioritise workload
  • MS Office including Word & PowerPoint
  • Legal research

This is a 12 month contract based in central London and offers £425 per day.
