Marketing Communications Specialist

The Role

To provide strategic and tactical marketing communications consultancy and support to the business, primarily but not limited to customer communications and reports.

To build a marketing plan for customer communications across our business with key emphasis on ERR, connections and planned work.

To ensure that all marketing communications campaigns are measurable, meet business outcomes, deliver ROI and value for the business.

To build the clients brand - raising awareness and building across audiences.

To manage the content needs of the business, providing expert guidance and advice.

Using expertise and professional knowledge to adapt communications to channels and audiences and relevant marketing trends.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop a plan for customer communications, ensuring they are relevant and include key business message
  • Working with ERR and planned works to build customer engagement and recommend appropriate channels of communication
  • Work with the customer facing functions to understand their processes, and develop the best customer communications to provide customers with timely and relevant information.
  • Ensure that the business is supported by an effective marketing communications programme that meets clear objectives, ROI and adds value to the business.
  • Establish clear processes with which to record, measure and manage production of marketing communications materials
  • Ensure all communications are written to plain English standards and all messages are in line with company objectives
  • Devise and manage production of content to support print production, broadcast, digital and social media, photography and management of specialist consultancies.
  • Ensure that content is produced to agreed standards and meets the requirements of the business and stakeholders
  • Devise B2C (business to consumer) or B2B (business to business) integrated marketing plans with the aim of raising awareness of our services and improving customer experience
  • Taking multichannel marketing briefs and delivering value for money, on brand and message
  • Protecting and building the brand, measuring awareness
  • Manage the implementation, tracking and measurement of marketing campaigns
  • Brief and oversee the work of internal and external agencies, such as designers, animators and printers, who will deliver much of the campaign activity
  • Work within a budget and report any overspend
  • Write, edit and proofread copy for reports, campaigns and promotional materials within marketing campaigns
  • Ensure that the organisation's brand and identity is adhered to in campaigns and in all communication channels
  • Deliver regular reports of campaign results, including web analysis and evaluation of KPIs
  • Maintain regular measurement of the ROI of campaigns
  • Ensure accuracy of marketing materials and provide formal sign off if necessary
  • Collect and use data to inform new campaigns and the evaluation of existing campaigns
  • Take responsibility for the organisation of any trade shows or exhibitions
  • Administer the website(s)
  • Keep abreast of current trends in marketing
  • Manage the Marketing Advisors
  • Provide out of hours support in a crisis/incident

Key Skills

  • Excellent written communication skills. Good visual sense and design awareness
  • A strong communications practitioner, with experience of; content production, agency management, editorial governance, social media management, digital channels, communication tools and services
  • Proven track record in delivering measurable multichannel marketing communications campaigns, delivering ROI for both B2B and B2C
  • A good understanding and experience of working with online projects, maximising user experience
  • Demonstrated experience of procuring agencies, commercial negotiation and contract management
  • Proven experience of working within a large organisation within a multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Able to lead and manage change, transformation and engage, working with and through others to influence and support new ways of working.
  • High level of understanding of the utilities sector, and relevant internal/external influences (governmental, regulatory, NGOs, communities, employee relations, media, agencies, industry bodies).
  • Able to manage and prioritise complex, competing communication issues - maintaining high standards and alignment with business strategy at pace and with minimal guidance.
  • Project Management skills; as a manager of multiple marketing communications campaigns, your ability to proritise and manage to tight timescales is essential
