Senior Finance Manager (Acute) - NHS - London - 6 months - £500 inside IR35

You will lead financial management and reporting of acute budgets. You will be the key finance contact for a number of assigned acute contracts. Key responsibilities will include reporting an accurate financial position, providing support to the acute teams in both the annual contracting round and in-year contract management for the assigned contracts.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Reporting the monthly and year-end financial positions including several acute providers
  • Formulating forecasts of acute spend to enable robust in year financial management and reporting to feed into strategic plans
  • Participate in negotiations with acute trusts, leading the financial input to contracts
  • Lead financial management and reporting for those contracts for which the post holder is the lead finance contact
  • Ensuring an accurate year-to-date and year-end forecast position, including overseeing input of journals and reconciliation work
  • Provision of expert, technical advice and represent the commissioners at monthly technical meetings
  • Monitor contract and SLA performances against planned targets, assess material financial risks to and recommend option proposals where appropriate and provide reconciliations
  • Assess the on-going financial risk to acute spend on a monthly basis.
  • Provide working papers for aspects of the monthly and annual reporting
  • Provide highly complex advice and financial forecasting to a range of stakeholders
  • Analysis of highly complex problems and data sets
  • Analyse and interpret Payment by Results and other payment mechanisms that impact on contracts and care pathways

Experience

  • CCAB or CIMA accreditation or equivalent level of experience
  • Significant experience of working in finance as a management accountant in the NHS
  • Knowledge and understanding of the healthcare environment in the UK and in particular London.
  • Practical experience of the relationship between purchaser and provider
  • Experience of using computerised financial systems/excel/word
  • Significant experience of NHS Acute Contracts
  • Up to date knowledge of financial policy
  • Awareness of social, political, financial and business issues affecting the NHS
  • Expert knowledge of PbR rules and their application
