OTC Derivatives Analyst- Reconciliations/Settlements

To ensure that the work of the derivatives team is efficiently completed, without risk to the company, and to the satisfaction of both internal and external clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Risk Management including procedures, control and compliance.
  • Understand and comply with all requirements of regulatory regimes and corporate policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrably control all work in progress. Provide effective escalation point.
  • Identify and use Key Risk Indicators (measurable characteristics of a business process) and coordinate appropriate and regular management reporting.
  • Track, report and resolve errors and exceptions following in house risk control procedures
  • Maintain comprehensive procedure documents for all areas of work and incorporate regular review and update.
  • Effectively prioritise using market knowledge, understanding of NIM client base and use of KRIs.

Internal and external clients.

  • Provide a professional service to all internal and external clients, and constructive input to work ongoing in other areas.
  • Manage and control the derivative administration process.
  • Process and monitor the opening of new accounts.
  • Deal processing and settlement.
  • Margin payments/receipts.
  • Daily/monthly reconciliation of all derivative and margin positions.
  • Producing management information.
  • Assisting in the negotiation and completion of the various derivative agreements including Clearing agreements and Give-ups.
  • Co-ordination, planning and control of all derivative Clearer review meetings.
  • Regularly review all charges, fees and rates of interest relating to derivative clearing accounts.
  • Assist with completing daily regulatory reporting obligations
  • Process improvements.

Generic Responsibilities

  • Comply with all corporate policies and procedures within the department.
  • Alert management immediately of any significant changes to business risks and internal controls effectiveness.
  • Notify management and/or Compliance immediately of any regulatory breach.
  • Comply with health and safety policies and procedures operating within the business.
  • Provide accurate and appropriate management information to Senior Management.
  • Be aware of current regulatory and legal obligations of the function managed. Monitor, document and report business risks and internal controls of the function managed, alerting Senior Management immediately of any significant changes.

Job Specific Competencies

  • Reconcile investment market transactions and customer accounts.
  • Reconcile daily marked to market and initial margin calculations
  • Arrange the settlement of transactions.

Technical Skills, Knowledge, Systems Knowledge (and associated skill level)

  • Strong technical skills, preferably across a wide range of derivative markets and instrument types, coupled with a good understanding of other operational areas eg Settlements and Corporate Actions.
  • Awareness and recognition of different client types and their associated requirements.
  • Proficiency on Windows based software, including Word and Excel.
  • Ability to effectively utilize in-house and vendor software.
  • Good communication skills. The candidate will be expected to set agendas, chair review meetings attended by senior representatives, and produce accurate minutes.
  • Excellent organisational skills together with an analytical approach.
  • Continuous attention to detail with an excellent understanding of the risks associated with trading derivatives.
  • Comfortable reading and understanding legal documents such as Clearing Agreements.
