VCAS Project Manager/Engineer

Bristol

6 Month initial contract

Rates of up to £50 per hour

My Client are looking for an experienced VCAS Project Manager to join their team in Bristol on an initial contract of 6 months. The successful candidate will ideally have active SC Clearance but no essential, a background in similar roles within Marine and Naval positions with a degree in Engineering.

Primary Purpose:

Develop and apply engineering domain knowledge and/or project management office best practice to assist the development of technical and project solutions in the delivery of the Submarine Programme Management (Subs PM) department services. Provide project controls support across schedule management, risk and opportunity management, change management and budgeting and cost control.
Principal Tasks and Responsibilities will be tailored to the team demands and contract outputs, which could include:
Apply engineering and project management domain knowledge to produce solutions and documentation in support of assigned tasks and projects. Domain knowledge to include:
Project Management:

Requirements management;
Risk (threats and opportunities) and issues management;
Schedule management;
Governance arrangements;
Business case.
Engineering:

Naval marine ship design and systems, particularly submarines;
Naval nuclear support arrangements;
Engineering support solutions;
Through life management;
Asset management;
Safety engineering;
Contribute to process improvements within the concept, assessment, design and operational life cycles of submarines and their supporting MOD programmes and projects.
Undertake planning, delivery and monitoring of assigned tasks and projects, ensuring requirements are delivered to time, quality and cost, including subcontractor scope generation, contracting, delivery management and output acceptance.

Production and maintenance of:

Management plans;
Processes;
Risk (threats and opportunity) registers;
Performance reports.
Provide customer interface and support on all matters relating to Subs PM programme and technical functions.
Qualifications and Experience Requirements
Academic:

A bachelor's degree in engineering or technology, or,
A Higher National Diploma, Higher National Certificate or a BTEC National Certificate/Diploma in engineering or technology (or equivalent), plus appropriate further learning and experience, or;
An appropriate apprenticeship of specialisation.
Registered with a professional body at the IEng status, or capable and engaged in structured development towards its achievement (for Project Engineer role).
Project Fundamentals Qualification such as APM/Acoste/RICS or equivalent (for Project Officer role).
Local:

Familiar with the organisation and operations of the MoD Submarine Operating Centre (SMOC), Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) and awareness of the Flotilla Output Management (FOM).
Experience Extensive knowledge of submarine systems and submarine in-service support arrangements.
Proven success of applying engineering management arrangements and project controls.
