Description

Develop a career with a market leader yet have the lifestyle of a South West office, just 2 minutes from the beach. While research experience is not essential, an interest in consumer food and drink markets and confidence in both writing reports and interpreting data is highly desirable.

About HRA Food and Drink

HRA Global is a leading boutique business in the global food and drink industry, offering services in marketing, research and consultancy, entering its 8 th year of business. We have been developing South West and Exeter graduate talent since 2011 and are a successful and expanding small business - sales and profits have grown every year we have been trading.

We have a relaxed and informal culture and our size makes us agile and able to tackle a variety of projects. Being full service (e.g. offering marketing, market research and consultancy) means we know what works in food and drink, and having everything under one roof means we are easy for clients to deal with.

We are a focused team of seasoned professionals and for eight years we've worked with International food and drink clients on confidential projects. Clients are 40% international (the US, Australia and the EU) and 60% from the UK. Our projects include helping launch a new product into the US market, conducting market research into what consumers think of new flavour options, working on a company takeover or providing detailed research into a food or drink category.

The work is varied and no two projects are alike. The food and drink industry is the largest in the UK, employing 14% of the workforce and changes rapidly - products, prices, ranges and brands, they all change and adapt. FMCG is a challenging and yet very rewarding market and in our key areas of dairy, free from, organic, vegan, paleo, juice etc we are market leaders. We enjoy working on new and emerging health trends and being at the forefront of consumer demand helping our customers succeed in their markets.

We looking for a new team member who will...

*Be interested in developing a deep and broad understanding of market forces, competitive dynamics and industry trends within the food industry.

*Enjoy researching and writing about the food industry.

*Over time, rise to the challenge, using a passion for research, of developing the ability to comment intelligently and provocatively on food categories and become a voice of authority within it.

*Enjoy helping our clients make better decisions using our analysis and research.

*Not be afraid of experimenting with figures and novel data sets in order to construct visual and diagnostic models for helping clients understand what is going on in their markets.

Purpose of Role

  • Researcher - 75%

    You will work on confidential, time critical projects for clients which involve looking at specific product markets and finding out data, drawing conclusions and insights and making recommendations - for example about the UK Ice Cream market, Vegan ready meal market or European Free From category.

    As well as taking responsibility for writing the report, you will also ideally need some aptitude for designing the structure and layout of the report in a visually appealing way in a program such as Microsoft Publisher, and the Microsoft suite of Word / Excel / PowerPoint.

    You will need to be able to work on your own on projects and take ownership of your work. You will need to use your initiative, be inquisitive and be willing to ask us questions. Ideally you will need to have an interest in the food industry and in grocery markets. You will also need to be organised and able to take on board any constructive criticism.

    So, would you consider yourself to:

    • Have a 2:1 or higher Bachelor's Degree from a leading university
    • Have strong analytical skills? i.e. the ability to work with and interpret data, as well as extract relevant strategic insights and identify issues affecting consumer markets and form hypotheses for the future ?
    • Enjoy writing and researching?
    • Have a clear, concise communication style across Word, Excel and PowerPoint?
    • Possess strong chart and graph building skills?
    • Be able to quickly pick up and understand industry specific analysis skills in order to apply them to describe what is going on in grocery markets?
    • Have genuine desire to learn, develop and grow?
    • Take on new challenges and immediate responsibility?
    • Have fluent spoken and written English

      2. Communications and Project Management - 25%

    You will also help us by taking ownership of our own in-house marketing such as updating our website, running an email marketing campaign and project managing our monthly client newsletter. There could also be client projects such as designing new websites or packaging for food companies which you will work on alongside our partner creative resource and the rest of the team. Full training for these aspects will be given and these elements will broaden your perspective and help you get a better idea of how the food and drink industry works.

    You don't need to be an expert in marketing to do this part of the job, but the following skills are needed:

    • High degree of organisation
    • The ability to write persuasively
    • Some experience of design would be ideal

    Training and Development opportunities

    You will gain experience of writing for a commercial audience and will be trained on the necessary Copyright regulations to be aware of when writing non-academic work.

    You will be using business analysis tools and will learn about key markets in FMCG / Food and drink. We'll support you develop your skills of being able to create proprietary models.

    We will provide an induction to introduce you to the business and what we want from the reports. You'll have an input into the topics chosen and a large say in how the data is best presented.
