Our reputable public sector client has an excellent long term opportunity for a Grant Management Team Leader, who is a fully qualified Accountant, to join their team based in Glasgow for a 12 month initial contract.

At any one time the Grant Management team is responsible for managing approximately 1,000 live grant assisted projects and £150 million of outstanding, legally binding, financial commitments. As Team Leader you will ensure that grant payments are made to viable projects and for the specific purpose for which grant was offered. You will help ensure that compliance, finance and budgetary control is exercised when approving grant payments and that the risk of reputational damage to the organisation is minimised. It adds value to colleagues responsible for the policy aspects of grant schemes by ensuring that the appropriate professional accounting and budget management skills provide a framework in which the organisations policy aspirations for market failure interventions can be monitored.

What will you be responsible for?

* Issue new grant contracts

* Approve grant payments

* Negotiate repayment of grant in appropriate circumstances

* When there are material changes to a grant assisted project, negotiate appropriate changes to the legal contract

* Maintain contact with businesses as key dates for milestone achievements/submission of grant claims approach

* Evaluate project post completion reports

* Advise colleagues who appraise new applications for grant assistance about the types of non standard conditions which we might want in a grant contract to address unique or unusual circumstances

* Advise colleagues who are introducing new products (to address market failures) of the monitoring, financial and value for money approach which should be taken in the setting of payment conditions in the grant contract and the overall monitoring of progress with the project

* Deliver spend in line with directly managed budgets and deliver agreed share of spend against overall Grant Management budgets, keeping Head of Grant Management and Budget Manager/Finance fully informed.

* Provide support, advice and guidance to Grant Managers to help ensure appropriate decisions are made on difficult cases and that overall team targets are being met.

What do you need to successfully carry out this role?

* Strong leadership skills

* Be a qualified chartered accountant

* Have private sector business experience ideally

* Have knowledge of public sector grant schemes and their administration

* Have leadership skills

* Have Change management and project management skills

* Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
