Description

Systems Engineer - Government Furnished Assets, Combat System, Risk, Contract Change

A Systems Engineer with GFA is required to work on a twelve month with the possibility of extension for our Defence client based in Bristol.

This is a long term contract role working within the Naval Sector on the new frigate.

Overview of the Systems Engineer contract role

Working across the Combat System GFA portfolio to support the additional process loading resulting from a short term increase in the number of items of Government Furnished Information (GFI) received.

Purpose of the Systems Engineer contract role

Delivery of GFA (approx. 50% of Combat System Equipment) against agreed technical, cost & programme baselines is critical to delivering military capability. In order to conclude the platform design and to support manufacture a range of supporting information (GFI) is required. There is a short term requirement to implement alternative approaches to resolve deficiencies where information gaps exist. These approaches may include risk mitigation plans, contract change and adjustments to the level of GFA provision made in the design. This role will support the existing GFA Team in generating the outputs required to move the programme forward given the gaps identified.

Major Tasks and Activities:

  • Provide support to generate Contract Changes resulting from non-delivery of GFI.
  • Where alternative courses of action are agreed to resolve GFI shortfalls, assist in the generation and implementation of the alternative approach.
  • Assist Delivery Leads and SMEs in the development and management of recovery plans aimed at addressing information shortfalls.
  • Assist in the verification and review process for received GFI.
  • Support delivery leads in managing technical discussions with MoD Approval Authorities.
  • Provide input to monthly GFA data collection and analysis processes to support regular reporting outputs.

Key Outputs/Deliverables:

  • GFI compliance assessments

Key Technical Skills

  • Ability to operate in a large, complex project in a multi-disciplinary, Matrix management environment.
  • Knowledge and experience in use of corporate engineering processes.
  • Strong knowledge of Defence engineering techniques.
  • Naval Combat System technical knowledge
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems.

Company/Industry Knowledge:

  • 5+ years' experience of combat system engineering.
  • Previous experience of complex platform programmes or combat system equipment programmes.

The role is based in Bristol - commutable from Gloucester, Cheltenham, Tewkesbury, Worcester, Cirencester, Swindon, Devizes, Trowbridge, Bath, Taunton, Bridgwater, Weston-Super-Mare, Newport and Cardiff
