We have been retained to assist in the hire of a number of IT professionals to embark on a hugely significant big data project. As part of these 'hires' we are looking for contract Data Scientist.
Role
*Derive insight from large structured, semi-structured and unstructured data sets
*This is a chance to be part of the establishment of a new and growing group which will be foundational to our clients future success in information management and analytics.
*This role is responsible for acquiring, transforming and deriving insights from large structured, semi-structured and unstructured data sets. The role will also be responsible for working with stakeholders across the business to ensure that business value is derived from the insights that have been created. The role will require strong skills in computer science, mathematics & statistics and creative problem solving.
You will be responsible for:
*Using tools such as R, SPSS Modeller, or SAS and Teradata SQL to interrogate and mine data
*Presenting insights in a manner which can be readily understood by the business
*Building predictive models for how different customers will behave
*Working with stakeholders on deploying insights derived from this analysis
*Using your experience in dealing with large 'messy' data sets, and your knowledge of tools such as Hadoop and Map reduce to extract, clean, merge and transform other large data sets such as social and search
*Developing insights from this data which present commercial opportunities
*Using this data/insights to enhance existing models which have been developed using structured data sources
*Staying at the forefront of emerging trends in the analysis of data to identify new data sources and new tools or techniques which enable us to improve the speed and quality of insight development
*Educating the broader business on such trends, and how they can be leveraged to create business value
*Developing a deep understanding of the business operating model, understanding both the tactical and strategic business objectives
*Supporting Analysts who need more advanced analytic techniques to answer business challenges either by assisting with developing their skills or taking on thornier problems yourself.
*Assisting with the "productionisation" of the insights you develop, eg by directing software developers
To be successful in this role you will display:
*Tertiary degree in Math's, Statistics, Computer Science or a related discipline.
*Experience dealing with large structured, semi-structured and unstructured data sets - extraction, transformation and analysis
*Experience in using APIs, web-scraping and mash-up tools to acquire, modify and combine data sources from disparate sources (eg Hadoop and Map Reduce)
*Experience extracting and manipulating large volume data with SQL
*In-depth knowledge of statistical modelling tools such as R, SAS or SPSS
*Demonstrated ability to apply statistical or data mining techniques to solve real problems eg multivariate analysis, generalized linear models, tree-based classification models, neural networks and other modern data mining and predictive modelling techniques
*Ability to work under pressure, prioritise tasks & meet deadlines
*Self-motivated and pro-active attitude
*Strong communication skills and presentation skills
*Strong influencing skills with ability to effectively liaise at all levels
*Ability to work in a team environment and demonstrate ownership of actions
*Ability to coach and mentor co-workers and give and receive constructive feedback as required
