Description

Responsibilities

The individual will work within a small engineering team on an upcoming FEED development project with specific responsibilities to include:

  • Undertaking a functional assessment of Legacy ship systems;
  • Developing concept and basic designs for electrical systems;
  • Leading on the development of the following engineering documents;
    • Electrical Equipment Technical Specifications;
    • Electrical System design descriptions/design philosophy documents;
    • Electrical system schematic drawing;
    • Interface documentation;
    • I/O schedules;
  • Undertaking and documenting the following electrical engineering calculations and design assessments
    • Equipment sizing;
    • Fault current calculations;
    • Arc current/incident energy;
    • Protection systems;
  • Participating and chairing internal and external (with customer) design review processes;
  • Leading on engagement with the classification society for Design Approval In Principle;
  • Ensuring adherence to company the safety, quality and engineering governance processes;
  • Providing general electrical engineering support to the project team;
  • Ensuring that procedures, codes and standards are correctly identified and applied to engineering and technical activities;
  • Ensure task and project risks are communicated and managed appropriately;
  • Produce, review and approve calculations, analyses, drawings, models, design basis documentation and technical reports, in accordance with task and project requirements;
  • Assessing the implications of changes, concessions and queries;
  • Maintaining the engineering configuration, ensuring the overall design intent and integrity is maintained throughout design life cycle;
  • Contribute to process improvements within the design life cycle to deliver continuous improvements in quality, cycle time and cost;
  • Evaluate technical issues in order to develop proposals for investigations and/or solutions, including process improvements;
  • Provide support to the Project Manager for the planning, control and delivery of tasks and projects;
  • Support the identification of business opportunities and the preparation of bids, in area(s) of expertise, to facilitate the development of successful bids;
  • Provide help and direction to less experienced team members to support both their effective working, and their development;
  • Make engineering decisions within own sphere of responsibility and delegated authority:
    • Ensure required review, verification and approval of work is undertake;
    • Act as Technical Authority when authorised to do so by Chief Engineer or delegated authority;
    • When assigned fulfil role as Engineering Lead for simple multi discipline tasks and projects.

    Accountabilities

    The individual shall also have the following accountabilities;

    • Exercise and exhibit, at all times, the highest standards of care for own health and safety and that of others as defined by Health, Safety and Environmental legislation and endorsed by Company policy, procedures and delegations, eg Health and Safety.
    • Be knowledgeable of the 'Being Babcock' Behavioural Framework and strive to exceed the expected competency levels at all times.
    • Adhere to and operate at the highest level of ethical conduct, all endorsed company policy,procedures and delegations, eg Diversity and Inclusion, PDR's and Finance, etc.
    • Be knowledgeable of the content of the Design Lifecycle and the procedures defined therein
    • Ensure awareness of the legal, regulatory codes and standards requirements that are required for the project or task deliverable. Ensure that technical and design solutions are compliant with these requirements.
    • Establish with the Project Manager the man-hour budget for any assigned task together with expected completion date.
    • Work within the man-hour budget, or advise the Project Manager of expected variation at the earliest opportunity.
    • Provide a technical interface with customers and supply chain at a detailed level
    • Proactively seek opportunities to achieve task completion to less than budget.
    • Report on schedule and cost plan as required by the Project Manager, to complete assigned task.
    • Take responsibility for the quality of their output and ensure all deliverables are Reviewed, Verified and Approved at the appropriate level, by SQEP resource as defined by the Engineering Assurance Plan.
    • Maintain effective communications with all other disciplines and functional groups associated with the task or project, and when required, with the customer and other Stakeholders.
    • Support the business winning process when allocated to those tasks using approved bid preparation procedures.
    • Ensure regular review and maintenance of SQEP record (technical competency frameworks).
    • Keep up to date in relevant technical areas.
