Description

Our Blue Chip Retail Client are looking for a VAT Manager.

Working in the VAT Team providing VAT advice to the corporate group and to complete compliance related tasks, in order to contribute to the efficiency and success of the in-house VAT team and ensure that the corporate group is VAT compliant.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing VAT advice to all areas of the business
  • Collate disclosures for submission to HMRC
  • Supervise weekly review of product VAT liabilities
  • Provide support on BAU VAT tasks
  • Provide timely and accurate VAT advice to all areas of the business as required
  • Review business activities, identifying particular areas where VAT has an impact or is impacted, to ensure that the business remains VAT compliant
  • Proactively identify new or complex areas and work with key stakeholders and Tax team to identify and follow through on VAT risks and opportunities
  • Review relevant VAT returns prepared by VAT Accountant(s) and provide support to VAT Managers to ensure all VAT returns are submitted accurately and on time
  • Work closely with VAT Accountant(s) to provide support and grow VAT Accountant(s)'s VAT technical knowledge
  • Assist in the collation and submission of disclosures to HMRC, including technical rationale for disclosures. Work with VAT Accountant(s) to ensure submission to HMRC is accurate and take lead in subsequent correspondence with HMRC
  • Provide support on sensitive commercial projects, working closely with key members of the relevant project team to provide appropriate, technical VAT advice
  • Work in conjunction with VAT Managers to prepare and deliver VAT training to areas of the business as required
  • Keep up to date with recent changes in VAT Legislation and guidance and take responsibility for relevant implementation of changes and/or controls in the business
  • Supervise weekly review of VAT liabilities of products sold. Use VAT knowledge to ensure that challenge is made to suppliers in respect of contentious areas as appropriate
  • Work with Finance Operations team to review VAT processes and provide support, training and advice to the team
  • Review Partial Exemption calculation method agreed with HMRC and prepare annual calculations in conjunction with Capital Goods Scheme adjustments
  • Researching VAT Legislation and Case Law and providing advice to members of team to ensure business is VAT compliant

Contract will be 3 months initially but likely to last 12 months
