Senior Buyer/Purchaser

The role carries responsibility for purchasing services across a variety of commodities to a variety of dedicated business units. This will be achieved through forging and maintaining business relationships with key suppliers and ensuring timely delivery of products and services which meet specifications and expectations (including quality and level of service) at the best life cycle cost.

The individual will also have an active role to play in (global) supplier deals with other regions, and affiliated companies

Organisation
This role reports to the Global Leader for Corporate Purchasing.

Skills & Experience - Personal

  • A confident self-starter, working well under pressure, able to act on own initiative, share knowledge and operate as part of a team
  • Provide creative, proactive solutions to problems and able to operate flexibly with approach
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills, able to operate at all levels within the organisation
  • Able to lead, motivate and support team members in complex decisions.
  • Customer orientated.
  • Strong pragmatic, implementation and organisational skills, with a 'can do' approach, and an eye for detail.

Skills and Experience - Technical

  • At least six years' purchasing/supplier management experience.
  • Very good understanding of the electronics or broadcasting industries.
  • Procurement of sophisticated or technologically advanced systems and services for multiple projects is key.
  • Good understanding of the commercial aspects of purchasing, agreement formulation and contract negotiations.
  • Computer literate - experience with MS Office applications is essential.
  • Good understanding of purchasing or business planning systems.
  • Graduate calibre - Preference will be given to a person with a relevant degree level education.
  • Professional affiliation, eg CIPS, IEE, will be relevant.

Key Responsibilities
-Liaise with internal customers to establish specifications and requirements, including the outsourcing of development activities and project equipment.
-Translates complex technical requirements into commercial agreements and contractual terms.
-Work and collaborate with global regions to maximise, maintain and manage key supplier deals and relationships.
-Ensure Tenders and Requests for Quotation RFQ's are sought and awarded in accordance with global company policy.
-Formulate and negotiate contracts with key suppliers, including complex and technologically advanced systems and services, which ensures commitments are fulfilled and protects the organisations commercial position.
-Seeks purchases and agreements which exploit market and commercial conditions such as regional economics and Supplier year/qtr/month end targets.
-Manage assigned contracts, ensuring their effective execution, to agreed milestones, from initiation to delivery.
-Process Purchase Requisitions, place orders, expedite deliveries in accordance with the business process and controls.
-Monitors purchases and requisitions to ensure that we offer an added 'value for money' service
-Measure cost competitiveness, lead-time and quality performance of assigned suppliers and initiates corrective actions as necessary to optimise the service to the company and to minimise commercial risks.
-Cultivate and maintain good Supplier relationships to ensure continuity in supply together with a high and dependable standard of service.
-Acts as an escalation for and support Buyers to resolve supplier performance problems.
-Keep abreast of market and technological trends, particularly in the electronics and broadcast technology industry, advise internal customers of opportunities and take a proactive action to minimise/mitigate risks.
-Provide analysis/reports to internal customers or project teams of the status of bought-in equipment or sub-contract services including inventory, spend and savings analyses, to facilitate informed decisions.
