Deputy Director of Financial Services - NHS - 6 months - £490 a day inside IR35 - London

You will lead the provision of an efficient, effective and high quality professional accounting team, capable of meeting all statutory, regulatory and NHS requirements ensuring alignment with the activity of the organisation, ensuring that statutory and financial reporting needs are met.

You will be a valued member of the Financial Services management team providing insight, opinion and adding value to the overall team work flows and deliverables.

You will provide managerial and professional leadership to staff in Financial Services and ensure collegiate support and financial guidance to new initiatives and funding streams. You will also develop and drive strategy within the directorate.

Key Responsibilities

- Deputise for the Director of Financial Services working collegiately with the other Deputy Director

- Manage the assigned Financial Services teams to deliver an effective, efficient and high quality service to the department's customers in line with the relant SLAs.

- Liaising with NHSE on all matters associated with financial accounting.

- Managing, developing and implementing best practice accounting policy to be shared across all your teams, the Financial Services Department, and the wider NHS organisation.

- Lead in the coordination of training and development and recruitment activity across your teams.

- Contribute to the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures and internal/external KPIs.

- Developing and delivery of strategy within the department.

Experience Needed

  • CCAB or CIMA accreditation
  • Educated to masters level or equivalent level of experience
  • Experience of supervising/managing large teams
  • Experience of creating new/improved systems and procedures to streamline duties
  • Experience of using computerised financial systems, across a number of responsibilities
  • Experience of Procurement processes, Accounts Payable processes and Accounts Receivable processes
  • Experience of Treasury Management - maintaining positive cash flow position and ensuring good banking relationships
  • Experience of taking the lead in production of Statutory Accounts, including within NHS
  • Experience of providing and receiving, conveying and presenting highly complex, sensitive and/or contentious information to large groups, responding openly to questions to ensure full understanding and engage
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of equality of opportunity and diversity taking into account and being aware of how individual actions contribute to and make a difference to the equality agenda.
  • In depth knowledge of VAT rules and regulations
  • An understanding of the current challenges being faced by NHS Finance departments
  • Up to date knowledge of UK GAAP/IFRS
  • Up to date knowledge of financial policy
  • Knowledge of NHS cash limits
