Description

  • Working with the Head of External Communications to brief senior officers, the Chief Executive, the mayor and members on media responses, arranging interviews/press launches and preparing briefing materials;
  • To undertake day to day management of the Communications Officers providing effective leadership, advice, direction and support, setting and achieving high standards ensuring the provision of high quality value-for-money services;
  • To support the development and implementation of innovative multi-media PR campaigns that will include setting PR objectives, identifying target audiences, choosing the right media and techniques to achieve set targets, establishing cost and measuring results in line with the overall communications strategy;
  • To train and advise colleagues on how to embed consultation and engagement techniques into communications plans and strategies
  • To drive the demand for web based tools to simplify the consultation and engagement offer to residents and stakeholders
  • To work closely with Directorates to raise the profile and image of their services and that of the Council through award schemes, speaking at conferences etc.
  • To keep abreast of all significant policy issues and contribute to the Council's overall response on issues with significant implications for the authority.
  • To comply with targets and quality initiatives using the Council's agreed performance monitoring schemes.
  • To develop a media training module for the Communications Officers including changes in legislation and working practices that will improve the standards of service offered by this section; and
  • To facilitate the delivery of an integrated communications service to directorates ensuring that Communications Officers include internal communications, marketing, public affairs, campaigns, consultation and media activity in their plans to directorates.
  • This post will require work outside normal hours attending meetings and events.
