FINANCE MANAGER - FOOD MARKETING - LONDON - £300 - Initial 4 Months

The work location is in PADDINGTON, LONDON and is an initial 4 months contract.

Pay rate is £300 per day.

This is a great opportunity to gain an in depth understanding of the workings of a leading retailer, whilst building on key finance skills and competencies, and supporting the finance group deliver under its priorities of control, efficiency and insight.

The Marketing function has recently been devolved into two separate functions to better support the C&H and Food businesses. This therefore makes it an exciting time to join the team, as this role will have the ability to influence and support the change in direction of the Food Marketing function.

This role, alongside a Senior Finance Manager will be responsible for all business partnering, reporting and planning requirements for the Food Marketing functions. You will build strong and trusted partnerships with the Heads of Food Marketing and their teams. You will provide analytical and financial support as well as cost control and drive a profit-centric mindset in order to maximise business performance, optimise spend, minimise costs and drive profit.

Manage the process to plan/forecast and report on the Food Marketing cost base, driving efficiencies through challenge and insight.

Support and influence key business decisions by supporting, and providing insightful challenge on business cases, ensuring integrity of investment submissions, timely benefits tracking and subsequent post investment reviews, in line with the Group Investment Policy.

Key accountabilities of the role include:

  • Business partnering the Food Marketing budget holders, supporting them through the annual planning and reporting process, and with any investment proposals that may arise
  • Driving an increased level of insight through in-depth analysis to challenge current assumptions, identify opportunities and deliver business benefit
  • Ensure clear communication of monthly actual and quarterly outturn messages to key stakeholders, both Finance and non-Finance
  • Weekly reporting on Food Sparks markdown and quarterly reporting on Food Sparks profitability
  • Working closely with Human Resources in order to manage the Food Marketing Head Office staffing budget ensuring integrity of reported staffing data
  • Provide accounting expertise to commercial colleagues where required
  • Supporting the Senior Finance Manager with ad hoc review and analysis
  • Accountable for meeting agreed performance objectives in line with business competencies and progress areas for personal development

Key Measures

  • Delivery of accurate reporting on performance, forecasting and insightful analysis on the Food Marketing Budget
  • Business partnering non finance and finance teams across the business

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate must be a driven individual, a self-starter and must have a strong E-commerce/
retail background and must have worked in commercials before.

Technical Competence:

  • Qualified CIMA/ACCA/ACA
  • Ability to communicate with both commercial colleagues and finance teams
  • Ability to build & maintain effective working relationships with operational & finance teams
  • Ability to work effectively within a team
  • Quick learner, enthusiastic and solution driven

Systems Skills

  • Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Finance systems - knowledge of SAP preferable (ECC and BPC)
