Description

Data Modeller JD - Central London - initial 6 months - up to £450 per day (inside IR35)

Must have:

  • Datamodelling experience for transactional as well as data-warehouse systems (normalized (3NF) and dimensional models).
  • Have at least 5 years' experience working in Kimball data warehouse methodology
  • Strong experience using industry standard artefacts (eg ER-diagrams) to visualize data models.
  • Experience with collaborating with business stakeholders and data owners to develop and supporting Data Dictionaries/Business Glossaries and conceptual data models
  • Proficient in creating Conceptual, Logical & Physical models thought ER- Studio
  • Understanding of contextual, business, system and technology models and how they relate to each other.
  • Advanced knowledge of database handling languages (SQL and variants)
  • Work with the Application Development team and Source SMEs to implement data strategies, build data flows and develop conceptual data models.
  • Create logical and physical data models using best practices to ensure high data standards and reduced redundancy.
  • Develop best practices for standard naming conventions to ensure consistency of data models.
  • Perform reverse engineering of physical data models from databases and SQL scripts.
  • Evaluate data models and physical databases for variances and discrepancies.
  • Validate business data objects for accuracy and completeness.
  • Collate with the Architecture team and develop data models according to company standards.
  • Experience of Oracle 12c databases

Nice to have:

  • Knowledge of specific Higher Education data models (E-learning, HESA)
  • Understanding of ETL Tools and associated technologies such as Change Data Capture (CDC).
  • Knowledge of data manipulation tools such as TOAD, Excel etc.
  • Experience in implementing Data Governance and related activities
  • Discovering and analysing requirements, understanding the context, finding, and assessing alternative solutions and advising on configuration
  • knowledge of IBM InfoSphere toolset (eg Datastage, Information Analyzer, Information Governance Catalogue)
  • Experience working in an Agile environment including use of agile tools and technologies such as JIRA.

Communication:

  • You will be self-motivated and dynamic, and able to engage, challenge and influence others
  • A track record of developing and supporting collaborative working relationships across IT and the wider institution

An ability to explain technical issues to non-specialists, and to author clear technical reports and other formal documentation for solution deployments and evaluations is essential.
