USER CENTRE DESIGN LEAD//UCD//COVENTRY//6 months//£/day UMBRELLA

REED Technology are working with a client in Coventry who are currently going through an exciting transformation, which consists of a large portfolio of change, covering several large Programmes.

They have a requirement for a User Centred Design lead to work within a multi-disciplinary Programme leadership team alongside a Lead Product Manager, Delivery Lead and Technical Lead to be accountable for the delivery of products and services within a Programme.
You will be an expert practitioner in one of the core UCD professions (Service Design, User Research, Content Design or Interaction Design) and will ensure quality and coherence of user research and design on Programme of work consisting of multiple teams delivering multiple services which may all be at different phases:

  • Experience across one of the core UCD disciplines, but be as interested in managing people and influencing strategic relationships as much as being a researcher or designer on a service
  • Manage senior, mid-weight and junior researchers and designers across your Programme
  • Have strong leadership and communication skills
  • Be used to operating at a senior management level as a key member of the Programme Leadership Team
  • Support and guide teams to develop products and services in line with the government service standard and technology code of practice
  • Involved in hiring and procuring supplier partners
  • Responsible for building and maintaining a cross Programme view of users, their needs and contexts and ensure this insight is central to design decisions across products and services

Skills and experience required;

  • UCD skills with significant experience in one or more of the UCD disciplines and good knowledge of the others
  • Leading UCD practitioners and guiding work across teams
  • Familiar with the GOV.UK service manual, the service standard and recommended approaches to delivery and codes of practice - (GDS).
  • Ability to talk about the value of UCD clearly and be able to relate it to the priorities of others
  • Working in an Agile environment and shaping work for success, including experience of working with user research insight and defining impact through metrics
