Role

The Associate Director will be a vital role in leading both the delivery of work on the ground and the development of new opportunities for the company, maintaining insights and perspectives on how our markets are changing. Maintaining critical relationships and operating as a trusted advisor to senior clients, in addition to helping to shape solutions, decisions and driving implementation.

Responsibilities

Leading complex consulting engagements amongst a team.

Being able to handle a medium to a large team, coaching managing and supporting them on the projects.

Ability to handle one or more key client accounts and engage at a senior level whilst becoming a trusted advisor.

Developing a recognised profile within the external market, public speaking at events and building and also sustaining great and strong relationships.

Accountable for financial aspects - ensuring clients are continuously informed of costs and time incurred, in addition to raising invoices and recovering fees.

The Individual

Experiences in Deal Advisory.

Background/experiences in Public Sector/Government (Central), Transport, Energy or Utilities.

Leadership and managing and influencing junior members of the team as well as influencing and managing senior-level stakeholders.

Specialist project/programme/portfolio management

Experiences using various software's/applications (eg, Microsoft Teams, Powerpoint, Excel, Project, Oracle P6, Slack, Clarizen)

Relevant Professional cert - (APM PMQ/PPQ/ChPP/MSP/PRINCE 2)

Desired but not essential

Delivery in targeted business process improvements regarding capital investment portfolios and major projects/programmes

Delivering strategic advisory services eg, organisational design and governance optimisation

Enhancing project and programme controls

Assurance and monitoring

Prior experiences in large and/or complex organisations

Experiences in reviewing troubled projects and programmes

About the role

As an Associate Director, you will play a pivotal role in leading both the delivery of work on the ground and the development of new opportunities for the Firm, maintaining insights and perspectives on how our markets are changing and how our capabilities align. You will own many critical relationships and operate as a trusted advisor to senior clients, helping to shape solutions, inform decisions and drive implementation.

It is a highly accountable leadership role that requires you to wear many hats, but you'll be well supported by the rest of us. After all, everything we do is a team sport.

Specifically, your day-to-day involves:

- Leading complex and multifaceted consulting engagements, keeping your arms around dispersed teams whilst remaining dialled into delivery

- Being an inspirational leader; managing, coaching and motivating our people

- Managing one or more key client accounts, engaging at a senior level; becoming a trusted advisor.

- Collaborating with the MPA Leadership Team to develop and continually refine the long-term strategy for the team

- Being a respected subject-matter expert and a team-shaper; able to positively influence the scope and direction of any engagement through cross-functional collaboration.

- Developing a recognised profile in the external market; speaking at events, as well as building and sustaining great relationships

- Being accountable for financial aspects of an engagement - ensuring we keep clients informed of costs and time incurred, in addition to raising invoices and recovering fees

- Understanding the broader suite of services offered by KPMG and identifying opportunities to collaborate and design unique solutions for our clients

- Coaching and mentoring your colleagues - both up and down

About the sort people we're looking for
There is no one-size fits all in MPA; we're as diverse as the world around us. We hand pick our people because they're our most important asset - and people pick us because we really mean that.

For this opportunity, we're looking for candidates with a strong consulting background of at least 10 years' experience - primarily built around infrastructure-related projects and programmes.

Your track record should evidence:

- A proven history of operating as an effective leader of multi-disciplinary teams - either for another consultancy or in a client-side role in industry, Government or the wider public sector

- Specialist project, programme and/or portfolio management expertise, with proven delivery and a passion for the future of the profession

- Domain experience in Central Government, Transport, Energy or Utilities

- Strong networks and successful business development

- Significant commercial management experience

- Deep experience of managing and influencing senior-level stakeholders, having built and sustained key relationships

- Ownership and management of client accounts - alongside contributions to significant bids and proposals

- The passion, resilience and energy to make a difference, both internally and externally.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

- Relevant experience using different software/applications (eg Teams, PowerPoint, Excel, Project, Oracle P6, Slack, Clarizen)

- Relevant professional certification - eg APM PMQ/PPQ/ChPP; MoP; MSP; PRINCE2

- Experience in one of the following areas would also help you stand out - but it's not essential:

- Delivering targeted business process improvements in relation to capital investment portfolios and major projects/programmes

- Delivering strategic advisory services such as organisational design and governance optimisation

- Performance and efficiency improvement in large/complex organisations

- Enhancing project and programme controls

- Assurance and monitoring

- Experience reviewing troubled projects and programmes - with a view to turning them around
