Job Title: Engineering Technician
Start: ASAP
Pay Rate: £24.18 Per Hour/Inside IR35
Location: Barnard Castle, County Durham


Job Purpose
  • To provide a comprehensive Engineering service to meet the business and regulatory needs of the department.
  • Technical support to product stream and other support areas.
  • Support of projects, line improvements, quality, safety & continuous improvement actions.
  • Provide support for equipment repairs and continuous running adjustments.
  • Ensure work is carried out to GMP standards and in compliance with both company and external standards.
Main tasks
  • Day to day breakdown repair cover of production/plant equipment.
  • Complete Maintenance activities (Work Orders).
  • Support for area projects.
  • Support for new product introduction.
  • ECC initiation, completion and sign off.
  • MERPS activities. Orders, Notifications, Data Maintenance.
  • Ordering of machine spares.
  • Continuous Improvement, safety & quality actions.
  • Equipment upgrades through continuous improvement.
Production Biased
  • Day to day support to production.
  • Perform line/machine size/product change overs.
  • Operation and maintenance, repair and improvement of a wide range of Manufacture, filling, Inspection and Packaging equipment.
  • Technical support for new product introduction, including equipment upgrades, machine improvements etc.
Building services/OS biased
  • Building infrastructure specific tasks concerned with, building fabric, electricity, piped services supply, drainage and effluent control.
  • Operation & maintenance of Quality water plants.
  • Operation & maintenance of HVAC systems.
  • Issue authorisation to work and permits to work.
Occasional tasks
  • Issue authorisation to work and permits to work.
  • Equipment software management and control
  • Unplanned work orders generated.
  • Creation & amendment of departments SOP's
  • Live file management and control including updates.
  • Performance and review of maintenance tasks on plant & equipment.
  • DCF's completed (updates on MERPS information)
  • Supervision of contractors.
  • Provide technical support for regulatory audits.
  • Rising of UIRs.
  • Protocols and project sign off.
  • Small project completion
  • Engineering Meetings.
  • Eng rep at various NPI projects.
  • Purchasing spares/services via a planned work order.
  • Creation and completion of ECC's.
  • Creation and completion of OQ test protocols.
  • Organising contactors.
  • Request/approve drawing updates.
  • Involvement with rectifying component issues.
  • Creation and amendment of critical device rationales.
  • PDI visits.
  • Liaise with off site agencies and suppliers.
  • Creation & completion of IQ/OQ protocols & summary reports.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Engineering Industry recognised apprenticeship (4-5 Year)
  • Minimum HNC in Engineering
  • Level 3/4 OAKS
  • Approx 3 years post apprenticeship experience
  • Job specific qualifications

TRAINING
  • 4 years engineering apprenticeship..
  • Approx 5 years post apprenticeship experience across several departments
  • Department specific training (1-2 years).
  • Knowledge and understanding required to maintain and fault find on modern pharmaceutical PLC controlled machinery, robotic technology and technical electronics.

  • Root cause analysis to prevent problems from re occurring.
  • Communication across the teams to highlight problems and cures.
  • Following investigation, complete breakdown report for future reference.
  • Reorder any spares used.

PEOPLE RESPONSIBILITY
  • Responsible for self.
  • Responsible for the safety of other during certain circumstances.
  • Assist/coach/advise production/engineering staff.
  • Advise Team Manager of issues/shortfalls/solutions/abilities etc
  • Influence project teams on technical issues with equipment/plant.
  • Co ordinate different departmental activities during area shutdown.
  • Communication links with internal and external contract staff.
  • Safety of self and others.
  • Take the lead regarding line/machinery improvements
  • Responsible for the upkeep of live files and other compliance related documentation
  • Ensure adequate supplies of spares.
  • Regularly stand in for Senior Technicians and take charge of Technician teams which includes co-ordination of work loads, scheduling maintenance and unplanned maintenance etc.
  • Share the lead during Technicians shift handover meetings etc.
  • Responsible for service engineers, contract staff and some production staff during projects eg service engineers must have an understanding of WOW, permit to work, changing procedures, SOPs etc.
  • Organise work schedules for service engineers, contract staff and some production staff during projects.
  • Train apprentices

PLANNING AND ORGANISING
  • Plan and agree own workloads including projects by consulting with Team Managers, Planners, Project Engineers and Contractors.
  • Prioritise own workload in line with the needs of the business.
  • Liaising with production to complete maintenance/improvement.
  • Input information into production/equipment schedules.
  • Liaising with external contractor to complete maintenance/improvement.
  • Liaising with other departments on site to organise meeting and schedule machine/plant and staff availability.
  • Providing out of hours cover for engineering activities.
  • Organising and managing shutdown activities.
  • Planning equipment downtime to complete engineering activities.

ENVIRONMENT
  • Wearing production garments eg: Aseptic areas
  • Wearing specialist PPE that restricts movement. Chemical suits, dust masks etc.
  • Roof voids hot in summer
  • Equipment voids small, cramped and warm all year
  • (All voids can present abnormal conditions).
  • Sterile area during shutdown becomes extremely warm and very uncomfortable to spend long hours working in.
  • Occasional physical jobs requiring lifting, working in awkward places and areas that suffer from temperature and humidity extremes.
  • Occasional lone working

Building services/OS Biased
  • Working alone, sometimes only member on site.
  • Working in confined spaces, effluent pits & drains.
  • Hygiene risks, effluent pits & drains.
