Venesky-Brown's client, a public sector organisation in Edinburgh, is currently looking to recruit a Quality Engineer for an initial 3 month contract with the potential to extend on a rate of c.£500-£550/day (inside of IR35). Due to the current circumstances this role will be remote based for the foreseeable future.Responsibilities:
- Working as part of the development team to build a cloud-based Innovation Platform from the ground up.
- Ensuring the products and services conform to industry quality and regulatory standards
- Working with data scientist and product owners, customer to elaborate success criteria and build in quality gates to support predictable delivery.
- Reporting of testing results and creating mitigation plans focused on the best experience for users.
- Monitoring system performance and contributing to infrastructure optimisation considering utility and cost.
- Knowledge sharing and mentoring of less experienced software engineers and quality engineers.
- Delivering exceptional customer support.
Essential Skills:
- Broad experience building secure, scalable enterprise applications in a cloud-based environment, preferably AWS.
- Deep knowledge of at least one programming language, preferably Java.
- Demonstrable experience of working with modern software development tools such as Kubernetes, Docker and git.
- Knowledge of data processing tools and techniques, eg Kafka, Cassandra, Flume, Spark, Storm, Flink, Hive, NoSQL
- Experience with modern software architecture paradigms such as microkernel, microservices, event-driven, serverless.
Desirable Skills:
- Hands on experience of using AWS suite of tooling to build enterprise software solutions.
- Good understanding of software development practices such as code reviews, unit testing, TDD, source management, continuous integration, and releasing software to live environments.
- A good understanding and/or hands-on experience in a relevant area: financial services and FinTech, Open Banking, privacy and ethics in data, societal trend analysis, financial regulation.
