Role Summary:

Our client are currently searching for an ambitious individual to join their team as a Senior Sanctions Manager. Within this position you would be reporting to the Head of Sanctions and would be responsible for supporting in the delivery of sanctions risk stewardship and advice across the UK WPB and CMB business. You will be expected to provide risk stewardship oversight and advice in relation to the sanctions control framework for UK. You wilk bee the SME on sanctions risk management and compliance with sanctions regimes imposed by the UK, EU, UN, HKMA and USA. You will also provide risk management recommendations and advice in relation to customers and transactions within a sanction's Nexus, provide advice and determination of controls designed to mitigate sanctions risk with respect to customer relationships, transactions and products and lead/co-ordinate regulatory reporting for UK with regards to sanctions reporting.

Key Responsibilities:
Overall Role Responsibilities:
  • Advising on risk management decisions concerning retention, exit and reporting for customers.
  • Handle a portfolio of advisory cases and drive to resolution.
  • Ensuring WPB and CMB Compliance and LoB teams kept informed on sanctions referrals with significant impact
  • Advising UK Reputational Risk and Client Selection Committees on relevant CMB and WPB client relationships
  • Advising on changes to filters including internal lists where finding comes out of a referral
  • Advice and determination of controls designed to mitigate sanctions risk with respect to products, customer relationships and transactions
  • Advice and determination of sanctions matters in relation to periodic, trigger-based or on-boarding reviews for CMB/WPB LoB in the Customer Segment section.
  • Supporting the in-county sanctions policy teams and where appropriate the in-county CMB and WPB business directly.
  • Draft disclosures to OFSI including breach reporting, asset freezes and license applications/variations
  • Work with Financial Crime Investigations on live sanctions investigations,
  • Collaborate with sanctions legal to ensure risk based approach within law and regulation
  • Supporting the wider advisory team with SME knowledge on Sanctions and advisory matters including client due diligence and transaction referrals.

Key Experience/Skills:
Experience and skills that are required for this role are as follows:
  • Deep understanding of UK/EU/UN/US sanctions essential
  • Sanctions experience essential, preferably gained within or one of its peers
  • Experience in carrying out sectoral sanctions reviews and deep-dives
  • Experience dealing with breaches and high risk exposures
  • Experience managing a team of advisors or lawyers
  • Good understanding of the FCA rules (eg Systems and Controls
  • Proven ability to clearly articulate business and regulatory implications of analysis and findings both to Compliance Colleagues and Business Heads
