Interim Engineering Director

Timothy Taylor's is one of the UK's most respected family-owned brewers. We produce award-winning cask ales for our own pub estate, independent pubs, large pub groups and for retailers.
Our 160-year-old brewery is undergoing a second phase of evolution aimed at modernising the plant and improving its efficiency and reliability to support business goals for continued growth and increased capacity.
Purpose of the Interim Assignment:
To evaluate the current status of the engineering structure and available engineering support across the brewery, packaging and site services, and develop a strategic three-year agenda for Engineering that will cover the following areas:
- How the Engineering function can support our growing business to achieve operational, profitability, safety and environmental objectives.
- Identify potential investment projects across the site that will allow for increased capacity and defining clear project plans covering timescales, costings, additional resources needed, and ROI's.
- Address a backlog of maintenance and engineering tasks required to guarantee the resilience and efficiency of manufacturing operations.
- Manage and implement the required measures to ensure the business continues to adhere to DSEAR and PUWER Regulations.
- Propose a structure for the engineering department that considers all internal and external resources and will meet the future needs of the business.
- Updating operations across production processes, packaging, CIP, steam production, energy, and general site services.
- Contribute to site environmental considerations including Carbon footprint reduction.
In addition to the above, the Interim Engineering Director will b e responsible for:
- The implementation of some elements of the agreed plan.
- Dealing with any short-term engineering issues across the plant.
- The management and coordination of on-site subcontractors.
- Leading capital investment/critical projects prioritised for the first 6-12 months.
Suitable applicants will hold the following skills and experiences:
- Degree qualified Engineer.
- Food & Drink Manufacturing experience is crucial.
- A Brewing background is desirable, but not essential.
- Evidence of managing, prioritising, and costing multi-project scenarios.
- Extensive Engineering Line Management and Project Management experience.
- Experience working with and managing third-party suppliers and subcontractors.
- Good understanding of H&S legislation relating to engineering services, plant, and equipment.
- Experience of DSEAR and PUWER studies, their output and implications.
- Strong communicator who is credible and comfortable in dealing with a wide variety of stakeholders across the business; demonstrate gravitas and engagement.
- Ability to deliver in an intelligent, collaborative, practical and enthusiastic manner.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, experienced in presenting to senior management.
