DevOps Engineer

Whitehall Resources are currently looking for a DevOps Engineer on a remote basis with travel to Shropshire for an initial 6-month contract.

* UMBRELLA COMPANY ONLY.*

Technical Skills:
- Knowledge/experience working with tools/capabilities in Production environments, to include:

Essential Skills:
- Cloud Knowledge - AWS working knowledge
- User Administration - RBAC controls, create/amend/delete
- Tooling Administration - CI/CD, Monitoring, Alerting, Logging
- Operating System - Unix, Shell Scripting, housekeeping activities

Desirable Skills:
- Service Management - ServiceNow, Jira, Confluence
- Data Analytics Platforms - SAS 9.4, Viya and associated tools/modules
- Database Administration - Oracle, SQL, PL/SQL

Operations:
- Flexible and swift response to system issues
- Pro-active analysis of service performance to enable predictability of issues and pro-active response
- Delivery of minor enhancements to continually support improvements
- Attends workshops, working with the architecture group and other engineers to highlighting any risks or areas of special concern around the service support
- Able to act as the main point of contact for communicating the status of the services supported and feed back to the SDM/Scrum Team
- Shares knowledge/responsibilities amongst the team members to ensure the team is balanced in knowledge and skills to avoid single points of failure
- Works with the Product Owner to identify release schedules and flags any conflicts/concerns
- To be commercially aware and able to explain any variance from impacts and deviations from scope through change or service improvements
- Continuous improvement approach by identifying opportunities for automation, simplification, shorter cycle times, minimising technical debt
- Manage their core management activities like holiday, on-call rota, calling in sick
- Open to potential for on-call/out of hours support

Capabilities:
- Should actively learn and stay up to date with key technologies
- Proactively identify their training needs
- Is able to advise on the manday effort for completing known activities on the service they support and provide an estimate for similar activities
- Can review manday impacts and comment on their suitability/flag gaps or risks to the service

Governance/Quality
- Can provide high level review and guidance for live service manuals to the project teams to assure suitability
- Can provide feedback on any system relevant risks, eg performance/capacity of the service
- Stakeholders - Scrum Team, Service Delivery Manager, Product Owner, Architect, Scrum Master
