Job Purpose

The Tilney Group is an award-winning provider of financial planning, investment management, advisory and execution only services to UK clients. We are investing heavily in new technology and digitalisation to enhance our market leading wealth management business and are mid-way through a multi-year investment programme.

We are looking for a Delivery Manager to join our Digital Portfolio team to accelerate our capabilities in delivering our business ambitions.

The successful candidate will;

  • Coach and mentor both team members and others to apply the most appropriate agile and lean tools and techniques
  • Identify obstacles and help the team to overcome them
  • Focus the team on what is most important to the delivery of products and services
  • Encourage and facilitate continuous improvement of the delivery team
  • Build and maintain teams, ensuring they are motivated, collaborating and working well

Role Scope

  • Project Delivery. Takes full responsibility for the definition, approach, facilitation and satisfactory completion of medium-scale projects (typically with direct business impact and firm deadlines). Identifies, assesses, and manages risks to the success of the project. Ensures that realistic project plans are maintained and ensures regular and accurate communication to stakeholders. Adopts appropriate project management methods and tools whether predictive (plan-driven) approaches or adaptive (iterative/agile) approaches. Ensures Quality reviews occur on schedule and according to procedure. Manages the change control procedure and ensures that project deliverables are completed within agreed cost, timescale and resource budgets, and are signed off. Provides effective leadership to the project team, and takes appropriate action where team performance deviates from agreed tolerances.
  • Agile and Lean practices. Leads on a range of Agile and Lean tools and techniques, with an ability to coach within and outside of your team. Advocates for the use of Agile tools and techniques. Establish a feedback loop for teams; take responsibility for the translation and measurement of value (what you put in and what you will get out) and ensure this relates to practical TS&W objectives and the user needs. Ensure the team has a situational awareness of work and priorities across the team. Ensure that working practices are iterated to achieve effective delivery.
  • Communication and stakeholder management. Identifies the communications and relationship needs of stakeholder groups. Translates communications/stakeholder engagement strategies into specific activities and deliverables. Facilitates open communication and discussion between stakeholders, acting as a single point of contact by developing, maintaining, and working to stakeholder engagement strategies and plans. Provides informed feedback to assess and promote understanding. Facilitates business decision-making processes. Captures and disseminates technical and business information.
  • Product life cycle management. Clearly understand the different phases of product delivery and can contribute to, plan or run these. Maintain a product or process through the delivery phases, into live and then into retirement. The ability to lead a team through the different phases of the delivery product life cycle. Maintain and iterate a product over time to continuously meet user needs. Understand incident management and service support so that products are built effectively.

Makes decisions which impact the success of assigned work, ie results, deadlines and budget. Has significant influence over the allocation and management of resources appropriate to given assignments. Leads on user/customer collaboration throughout all stages of work. Ensures users' needs are met consistently through each work stage.
  • Performs an extensive range and variety of complex technical and/or professional work activities. Undertakes work which requires the application of fundamental principles in a wide and often unpredictable range of contexts. Understands the relationship between own specialism and wider customer/organisational requirements.
  • Is fully familiar with recognised industry bodies of knowledge both generic and specific. Actively seeks out new knowledge for own personal development and the mentoring or coaching of others. Develops a wider breadth of knowledge across the industry or business. Applies knowledge to help to define the standards which others will apply.
  • Demonstrates leadership. Communicates effectively, both formally and informally.
  • The ability to create detailed programme or project delivery plans across multiple phases taking into account dependencies and external factors.
  • Coach teams, Product Owners and the wider organisation in value delivery - backlog creation, management and prioritisation - helping to ensure the vision is delivered.
  • Help the teams continuously improve and adopt an empirical approach - coach the team in how to measure and track their delivery in order to identify areas for improvement.
  • Challenge existing processes and work with people outside the team to update them if they are slowing the team down or not adding the most value for everyone.

Skills and experience:

  • Experience of initiating a project, building a team, going through discovery and getting a service live.
  • Relevant industry experience such an Financial Services, Wealth Management or Insurance will be an advantage
  • Knowledge and previous experience utilizing Azure DevOps, JIRA, Confluence, Kanban and Scrum tools and techniques.
  • An in-depth knowledge of the software development life cycle and the key activities of each.
  • Any of the following formal project management certification (Prince 2, PMI, MSP) or Agile certification (Scrum Master, SAFe etc) will be beneficial.
