Job Description

The role is part of the Credit & Settlement Risk (CSR) team who have accountability for the 2nd line of defence to proactively manage and mitigate credit and settlement risk for the organization. The company has a growth strategy which requires a balanced and sustainable approach to risk versus reward; credit and settlement is one of the significant risks the organization undertakes.

This role in the Strategy & Global Engagement team offers an opportunity to support on a variety of strategic projects within the CSR team and will be a key member of the team that drives the evolution of credit and settlement risk management. The CSR Strategy & Portfolio Manager will be familiar with fundamental credit risk analysis and possess a strong understanding of what's expected of a strong credit risk management framework in a regulated environment (a payments and/or banking background would be beneficial). You will be hands-on, keen to review data and able to present data driven conclusions in support of any recommendations.

What we expect of you, day to day:

  • Adhering to the CSR Framework, procedures, policy standards and controls.
  • Supporting strategic projects to enhance credit settlement risk management, such as:
  • Enhancing the embedding of risk-reward considerations into the credit settlement risk framework, including the practical implementation of processes to enable this;
  • Reviewing risk mitigation approaches and supporting enhancements to risk mitigation framework in a way that supports sustainable business growth
  • Developing a more structured basic learning and development program for credit analysts
  • Contributing to a data driven approach in understanding and managing the credit & settlement risk portfolio, utilising systems and tools with the purpose and focus of improving processes, becoming more effective and providing better insights to actively make better risk management decisions.
  • Leading the enhancement of portfolio level credit risk tools, including scenario testing and automation of key credit risk capabilities to improve portfolio insights.
  • Supporting enhancements to and oversight of the credit risk control framework eg review and updates to policies, procedures and risk registers, to reflect any new and emerging risks or products, as required. Own the oversight of any controls testing performed.
  • Driving and scoping of business requirements for key credit risk system enhancements, particularly as part of implementing strategic projects that require scalable system solutions.
  • Supporting Regulatory and Internal Audit requirements.
  • Any other ad hoc duties as required by the CSR Senior Leadership Team

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of credit risk control and governance frameworks in a regulated financial institution. In particular, familiarity with concepts around risk appetite setting, credit risk capital and expected credit loss calculations (eg IFRS9/CECL) in relation to wholesale credit portfolios is preferred.
  • Ability to deliver any findings or recommendations in a clear, concise and well written format, whether as a paper or a presentation.
  • Experience as a credit risk analyst or underwriter, and/or ability to perform fundamental credit analysis is preferred. In particular, understanding of corporate and/or FI credit rating methodologies will be highly beneficial.
  • Previous experience driving and delivering strategic projects involving multiple stakeholders and managing any difficult conversations.
  • Strong excel skills for data manipulation and visualisation. Tableau skills would be beneficial.
  • Strong time management and prioritisation skills.
  • Knowledge of the UK and wider European payments and/or financial services industry and the major trends affecting key stakeholders, including the regulatory, political and market environment, payment products and services, economic and competitive landscape, technology and the rising threat of data breaches.
