Avionics Rotary Wing Supervisor

Our client is looking for an Avionics Rotary Wing Supervisor to support the Merlin Forward maintenance tasks and operational trials flying from Boscombe Down.

The Role

The primary purpose of the job is to ensure that the Merlin aircraft/equipment maintenance and trials flying are carried out efficiently and to quality in accordance with regulatory and corporate procedures. The trials flying incorporates a phase of Flying then the aircraft is put in to a maintenance package of circa 8 weeks to clear maintenance for the next phase of Flight Trials activity. To do this, the applicant will need advanced and specialised skills to carry out and lead the activities to be completed, solving problems of a routine nature, providing supervision proportional to the level of competence and experience of the technicians being supervised.

Key Accountabilities

  • Working with integrity at all times, raising concerns immediately
  • Compliance with all relevant legislation, including HS&E
  • Compliance with policies, procedures and manuals
  • Completion of tasking within the scheduled time and at an appropriate quality
  • Ensuring that everyone has the appropriate tools and equipment to carry out assigned tasks
  • Ensuring that the delivery manager is aware of the progress/status of assigned tasks
  • Identifying to the delivery manager when a task is complete and anyone is available for other tasking to be assigned
  • Ensuring that all work is properly documented; including update of aircraft technical records and supporting aircraft maintenance information systems as required
  • Quality of your own work and for the quality of the tasks performed or services provided by those you are supervising
  • Ensuring competency is at the required standard for the work undertaken
  • Ensuring competency as a 1st signature in the first instance
  • Ensuring that employees under supervision undertake work in a safe manner
  • Appropriately delivering 2nd signature responsibilities and 3rd signature where appropriately delegated

Key Capabilities/Knowledge

  • Good knowledge and comprehensive understanding of the range of processes, procedures and systems to be used in carrying out assigned tasks and a basic understanding of the underlying concepts and principles upon which the job is based
  • Good fault identification and isolation skills
  • Good understanding of aircraft publications and aircraft documentation set
  • Computer literate and familiarity/training/access with specific aircraft maintenance information systems as required
  • Comprehensive understanding of Health, Safety & Environmental regulations applicable to the nature of the work/facility
  • Ability to make judgements based on practice and previous experience

Ideal Experience & Qualifications

  • Apprenticeship in an aircraft engineering discipline, or equivalent experience in respective field
  • BTEC Diploma or NVQ Level 3 in engineering or equivalent experience
  • Merlin Qualification courses or on aircraft/equipment type or associated systems - Merlin SQEP
  • Comprehensive knowledge of UK Military Aircraft documentation procedures
  • Computer literate and familiarity with specific aircraft maintenance systems especially GoldEsp and online Technical Manuals CIETP
  • Incorporated Engineer/Engineering Technician status and relevant aircraft technical/supervisory experience.
