SOX Financial Controller, Investment Bank

My client, a global bank, is looking for a SOX Financial Controller as cover for maternity leave.

Purpose:

  • The Role is to support the Investment Banking annual SOx process on an ongoing basis, and contribute to process improvements, with particular emphasis on:
  • Perform SOx scoping, testing and reporting
  • Drive improvements across the SOx team and the wider control environment across the Bank
  • Support to the VP, Governance & Control - SOx team with adhoc tasks

Role responsibilities:

  • Perform Design Effectiveness Assessment (DEA) for in scope processes and identify areas for improvement.
  • Perform Operating Effectiveness testing (OET) of SOx controls; review and challenge current control environment and ensure best practice is maintained.
  • Assess the impact of control weaknesses on the financial reporting processes and financial statements.
  • Monitor progress of remediation plans for SOx related issues
  • Management reporting of testing status and findings
  • Establish and maintain strong partnership with business teams, the global SOx team and the wider finance and governance team.
  • Work on special projects requiring attention for improving control environment.
  • Assess new products or business changes projects for SOx impact and direct project teams on implementation of SOx controls as necessary.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Accountant
  • Knowledge and experience of front to back controls within a IB function
  • Good understanding of the COSO framework and its application to internal controls over financial reporting
  • Overall understanding of 'minimum standards' for SOx and control issues reporting
  • Good understanding and application of IFRS in particular in relation to IB products
  • Ability to understand, implement and drive improvements to a risk & control framework
  • Communication skills
  • Ability to analyse problems using multiple information sources to identify core issues and develop mutually satisfactory solutions
  • Constantly manage stakeholders expectation over level and speed of service before issues arise
