Description

An offshore wind operator is looking for an experienced Cables Terminations Engineer for an offshore wind farm project in the UK waters. The Terminations Engineer will start this long-term contract ASAP at the client's headquarters. The Cables Terminations Engineer will report to Array Cable Package Manager. The client is looking for this Cable Terminations Engineer to have an electrical engineering degree, or 10+ years of specific cable engineering experience. This is a hands-on engineering role, and will not be suitable for Client Representatives.
Responsibilities:
  • Providing detailed engineering, associated with the Cable handling and Terminations of the Array Cable in the TP, WTG and Substation. Working with procurement and other project personnel to develop the scope of work and associated documents to support the tender for the Terminations work.
  • Support the design, delivery, installation of the terminations engineering work
  • Provide support to the Package manager in working with HSE, Quality, Risk, Planning, Finance and interfaces as well as other package managers.
  • When required, to support and work with the Cable Supply package manager
  • The Submarine Cable Terminations Engineer will work in concert with members of the offshore construction team to identify engineering issues and restrictions and develop solutions to overcome the restrictions.
  • The Submarine Cable Terminations Engineer will review Contractor's documentation, including operational, SHE and detail method statements on behalf of the offshore construction team.
  • The Submarine Cable Terminations Engineer help to ensure that contractors have in place the necessary arrangements for working offshore in UK waters and under CDM 2015 and Health & Safety At Work Act 1974.
It is necessary that the role holder complies with:
  • Understanding/knowledge of work procedures, ensuring they are applied and used
  • Providing engineering support and advice as required by events
  • Ensure health and safety is properly included in operations and planning for operations
  • Take elements of work to conclusion or support the package manager in that aim
  • Manage contracts, if required by the package manager
  • In respect of their responsibilities, vigorously control safety, health and costs
  • Assist with logistics arrangements and control
The Submarine Cable Engineer is expected to be flexible and may be required to be in one location(s) for protracted periods if the need arises.
In the planning phase of the work, the next many months, working time will be mainly in the client's Headquarters and then as planning moves to construction phase, time will be divided between office and construction base and the offices factories of the suppliers and Contractors.
Skills & experience:
  • An extensive offshore windfarm submarine cable background
  • Have knowledge of Transition Pieces and WTG Towers
  • Have ideally worked on a Vestas WTG project
  • Have knowledge of construction vessels, CTV operations and handling submarine cable
  • Experience of working within a major offshore wind farm developer's project team
  • A demonstrable experience of analytical and disciplined processes of management.
  • Extensive contract & site management experience working remotely from the place that operations actually occur
  • Extensive site HSE knowledge
  • Involvement in the delivery of, contract quality of output/compliance
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Education: The candidate will have a formal qualification in engineering to degree level
  • A flexible approach and willingness to work with all aspects of the submarine cable installation
Certifications:
  • First Aid course (minimum 3 days)
  • Valid STCW 95 Personal Survival Training, GWO, BOSIET or equivalent.
  • Offshore medical certificate (OPITO, ENG 1, UKOAA or commercial diver or equivalent)
  • Manual Handling Training
  • Confined spaces training
  • Security Awareness Training (STCW VI/6-1)
  • Working at Heights training
