Electrical Controls and Instrumentation Engineer - Waste to Energy

£45,000 - £55,000 + Bonus

An experienced EC & I Engineer is required to join an expanding team working on waste to energy projects in the North West.

The client manufactures green products and green energy using waste, waste water and wasted heat as a resource mine. They focus on providing tailored renewable energy solutions for commercial and industrial projects to help them save and preserve resources. A well-established market leader in that seeks to build on the existing success of the company and a growth in the market demands for green energy.

The position has become available as they focus on creating a team with a diverse range of talent that operates in a safe, innovative and sustainable environment in order to promote the green economy and build new markets.

About the role;

To carry out maintenance tasks on the Energy Recovery Facility, involving calibration, fault finding, installation and routine maintenance of all electro-mechanical equipment/instrumentation and associated systems.

Principle responsibilities:
  • Perform and document maintenance, installation, fault diagnosis, and repair of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic control systems.
  • Inspect, repair and maintain all types of LV electrical plant, apparatus and control gear, variable speed drives etc,
  • Inspect, repair and maintain all types of electro-mechanical plant, inc pumps, fans, conveyors, overhead hoist cranes, valves etc
  • Work with a wide variety of instruments including pH, conductivity, ultrasonic, level, flow, pressure transmitters, proximity sensors, thermocouples, RTDs, etc.
  • Understand piping and instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID's), wiring diagrams, panel drawings, pneumatic and hydraulic diagrams, mechanical engineering drawings etc.
  • To propose and develop modifications and improvements to plant /apparatus as appropriate.
  • Liaise with and oversee suppliers/contractors carrying out Electro-mechanical tasks/projects to ensure compliance with company procedures and safe working systems.
  • Ensure compliance with the company's Quality and Environmental Management System and Health and Safety Policies - ISO EN9001,EN14001,EN18001.
  • Assist the maintenance/operation teams to achieve collective objectives and common goals.
  • On the job training of Apprentices where appropriate/applicable.
  • Perform all duties in manner consistent with environmental, health and safety and company policies.


Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications:
  • Recognised Engineering Apprenticeship.
  • Qualified to at least HNC, or equivalent, in a relevant Engineering discipline.
  • Detailed knowledge of all aspects of maintenance techniques associated with Electro-mechanical systems.
  • Good understanding of PLC & SCADA/DCS architecture and associated control systems.
  • Detailed knowledge of instrumentation and calibrations procedures.
  • Minimum 3 years experience gained in a continuous process industry.
  • Some manual handling necessary, working in confined spaces and working at height.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with internal staff (at all levels) and external suppliers/contractors.
  • Experience of High Voltage Apparatus (desirable).
  • Ability to contribute as an effective team member and self- motivated to work with minimum supervision.
