Description

We are seeking a contract (full-time), highly productive, jack-of-all trades "rock-star" developer, software architect, systems engineer and DBA to join our all-star team.

This position is intended to be roughly 40 hours per week of work. It is a remote/work-at-home position with a very flexible work/vacation schedule as lifestyle is hugely important to our company.

You will be expected to be available during normal EST business hours (8a-5p) with occasional off-hour support during critical business events. You will work hand-in-hand with our existing CTO to optimize, support and manage our entire web infrastructure.

We, Natural Health Sherpa (http://naturalhealthsherpa.com) are a leading natural health company based in the U.S. We publish courses and videos that help people get healthy naturally. And we sell a line of high-end nutraceuticals. Our growth is being propelled by the tsunami of demand swelling from society’s skyrocketing desire to seek out natural solutions to common health problems.

We’ve grown every year since our inception in 2010 and are having our best year ever in 2015 and need another developer to help us scale to the next level. Our team consists of a very small number of very sharp people who simply get things done, are fun to work with and who are accountable.

We are looking for someone who has hands-on experience developing marketing and e-commerce platforms, subscription billing/management experience and thoroughly knowledge of payment processing as well as experience developing customized business intelligence reports from scratch.

Coordinating with our CTO, your primary focus will be adding features and functionality to our direct response software platform (LAMP), integrating with 3rd party tools, and optimizing our web infrastructure.

This job is suited only for people who have proven that they have a lets-solve-this-problem mindset, are hands-on in all facets of web engineering from the browser-to-the-code-to-the-server, and will pro-actively seek out new solutions, build them cleanly and quickly, and help grow our business.

Here's an example of what we might need and you should be able to do it all swiftly, accurately, intelligently and completely:

When we get an asset pack of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript from our design team and need to get it live with a bunch of dynamic content from PHP, MySQL, or a myriad of integrated server- or client- technologies (FB, Google, etc.), you'd do that all yourself;

  • Once the page is live and we want it optimized to hit a minimum PageSpeed score of 90, move all of the static assets to our CDN, and get the responsive mobile UX score to 100, you’d do it;
  • Then, when we need new functionality added to the underlying system that delivers that page in order to offer new features, data, or reporting capabilities, you’ll build it all yourself using PHP;
  • To capture that new data, large-scale MySQL schemas (100s of millions of rows) will need to be updated and optimized, including creating any related SPs, UDFs, triggers, and views, which you would do;
  • When we need to report on that data, including a robust data warehouse, lightning-fast reporting, and answer complex business questions, you would create the whole system architecture, code that entire thing yourself, and integrate with all of the necessary third parties.
  • And when all of this is being built, deployed, fixed, and maintained, pushing code and database changes to managed-hosted and cloud-hosted front-end and back-end servers, you would do all of the code deployments, build automation, and testing yourself.

  • Overall, your responsibilities would be:
  • Designing, developing, enhancing, maintaining and supporting new internal systems, programs and web applications, including e-commerce, marketing, tracking, reporting, subscriber management, content management and more.
  • Coding using a variety of client-side technologies and libraries, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, Google APIs, and Facebook APIs.
  • Developing applications using a variety of server-side technologies including PHP, CodeIgniter, and CURLing to 3rd party APIs.
  • Designing, developing, implementing and optimizing the proper databases, queries, etc. using MySQL.
  • You should have hands on experience with heavy database work and understand how to optimize queries against large data sets as well as industry-standard EDW design and reporting patterns.
  • Manage asset, code, and database deployments to managed servers and cloud servers via SSH, FTP, and hosting UIs, as well as building or finding tools to improve and automate the deployment and testing process.
  • Proactively suggest ways to improve existing systems for the benefit of the business, but work with the CTO and business users to prioritize and ensure that mission critical items are always addressed first.

  • The overall requirements include:

    10+ years web systems administration and development experience and proven expertise.

  • Experience as an end-to-end application/web architect responsible for every single part of the project including defining requirements, establish project plan, architecting the system, setting up the infrastructure, coding it yourself to completion and integrating with necessary third parties. This should also include documentation and testing.
  • Self-starter who can take initiative and run with the ball without having to be told what to do
  • Strong project manager who can scope out technical requirements based on business requirements, define deliverables, create a project plan and then execute and deliver upon that plan.
  • Strong problem solver who can analyze situations and devise solutions quickly
  • Thorough ability to deliver clean, bug-free code both by programming effectively and efficiently and by utilizing a robust QA process
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a superb time management and multi-tasking skills
  • Comfortable working in a remote environment
  • Someone who likes to take initiative on their own and deliver upside surprises

  • Please send a cover email and your resume. We'd love to know why you think you're the best fit for the job. And, why the flexible/lifestyle schedule is so important to you.
