part time Financial Analyst/Management Accountant (Public Sector) - (3-5 days)

Contract. Kilmarnock. 12 Months +. £competitive per day. Public Sector experience preferable!

One of our public sector clients has an urgent requirement for a Financial Analyst/Management Accountant to be part of a team within Finance that will provide a comprehensive integrated financial management service.

Role Responsibilities

  • To be part of a team which will develop and maintain sound financial practices within the Company
  • To carry out detailed financial analysis and support detailed medium term and long term financial planning
  • To develop financial planning scenario models
  • Support the development of Outcome Based Budgeting models and budgets
  • To contribute to the continual improvement of the financial management of the Company
  • To develop new strategies in the light of service developments or Scottish Government initiatives
  • To contribute to the development and implementation of a new financial management system
  • To maintain knowledge and understanding of the Codes of Practice and other accounting regulations and be able to apply these as appropriate to existing systems and mechanisms
  • To maintain knowledge and ensure compliance of the Company's financial regulations and standing orders and advise on their application
  • To deliver training in financial models, procedures and systems as required
  • To complete grant claims, statutory and other returns within the allocated timescales
  • To attend approriate working groups or meetings as required
  • To be aware of, and to comply with, the Company's corporate policies and procedures including Human Resources policies regarding sickness absence, maximising attendance, Health & Safety, training and development and equal opportunities
  • To undertake any other duties appropriate to the post as prescribed by the Head of Finance or nominated officer

Essential Skills/Experience

  • Educated to degree level
  • Professional accounting qualification
  • Substantial experience in a financial environment
  • Highly proficient in use of Microsoft Office particularly Excel
  • Highly proficient in use of financial management systems and business reporting tools
  • High standard of written and verbal communication skills
  • Well developed analytical and problem solving skills
  • Time management and organisational skills
  • Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines

Desirable Skills/Experience

  • Substantial experience within a Local Governement finance environment
  • Experience of financial modelling and scenario planning
