Description
  • The Technical Division (TD) is involved in the support of operating particle accelerators and in the development of future high-energy physics machines.
  • As a member of the Instrumentation & Controls or the Systems Automation Group in the Technical Division, the selected individual will be involved with the hands-on development, construction, wiring, commissioning and maintenance of electronics associated with the automation of specialized equipment (eg winding machines, presses, furnaces, controls and data acquisition systems).
  • This work will be performed on the bench as well as in remote locations.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma.
  • Knowledge as is typically gained from an Associate Degree in electronics or similar related discipline, is desired.
  • Demonstrated skills and at least two years practical experience in the area of analog and digital electronics, circuit wiring, and relay logic.
  • Ability to read and interpret circuit schematics, and manufacturers' manuals (or similar documents), and work with simple or detailed verbal instructions and sketches, based on journeyman-level expertise, general experience, and/or academic study.
  • A practical understanding of grounding and shielding, and familiarity with the interrelationships of circuits and electronic components.
  • Demonstrated skills in cable termination, module assembly and equipment repair at a chassis and printed circuit board level.
  • Experience with test equipment (eg, voltmeters, oscilloscopes and signal generators).
  • Ability to install, solder, and inspect small objects: sensors, wire connectors, voltage taps, etc.
  • Familiarity with Windows PC environment and facility with MS Word and Excel applications.
  • Good oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently given general or detailed verbal or written instructions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with the safe use of hand-held power tools and hand tools.
  • Ability to work overtime and shift work as needed.
  • Experience with sensors & instrumentation, modelling, and/or PLC programming is a plus
  • Skill and experience in the use of rigging equipment (eg, cranes, fork-lifts and scissor lifts), a plus.
  • Ability to grow professional while becoming proficient in programming diverse systems with limited direction is advantageous.
