Firmware Design Engineer - Requirements, FPGA, VHDL, Verilog
A Firmware Design Engineer with Requirements, FPGA, and VHDL or Verilog experience is required to work on a six month contract with the possibility of extension for our Defence client based in Luton.
This is a 6 month contract with a leading UK Defence Business.
Overview of the Firmware Design Engineer contract role
The firmware discipline team at my client in Luton is looking for an FPGA Firmware Engineer to strengthen the currently highly skilled function with expertise in high performance FPGA design, DSP algorithm development, and highly integrated SoC platforms. The successful candidate will have a track record in the design of complex FPGAs.
Key skills required for the Firmware Design Engineer
- Requirements capture, module Interface Documents and procurement specifications.
- Design of self-checking test benches using VHDL or Verilog
- VHDL/Verilog based FPGA design
- High performance design techniques
- Specification of timing constraints and static timing analysis.
- Advanced knowledge of FPGA synthesis and implementation.
- Good appreciation of Firmware development to a formal process for high integrity applications eg RTCA DO-254
- Experience of de-bugging and testing firmware designs
- Support system integration and qualification activities
- Version Control tools such as subversion or git
- Digital Signal Processing (DSP)
- System modelling tools such as MATLAB and Simulink
- Programming/Scripting languages eg. C/C++, Java, Python, Perl, TCL etc.
- System on Chip development soft/hard core processors
- Ethernet and network protocols
The role is based in Luton, Bedfordshire - commutable from Watford, St Albans, Aylesbury, Milton Keynes, Bedford and Stevenage with excellent access from London
