Description
This position will be responsible for providing production and development support for Oracle and Sybase platforms running under the Linux, Solaris and AIX operating system.
Oracle experience can be replaced with MSSQL but Sybase background is mandatory.
Responsibilities will include configuration and support of production, reporting, development and test environments. Responsible for day to day database support, performance monitoring, capacity management, escalations, installations, upgrades, managing replication, diagnosing system problems, disaster recovery testing and maintaining user accessibility.
Core accountabilities
- - Extensive Sybase DBA experience with Minimum 5-10 years experience as an Oracle (9i, 10g, 11g) or MSSQL (2005, 2008, 2012) DBA
- - Expert level knowledge and work experience on Sybase databases
- - A solid understanding of Sybase 12.5 or above performance optimization and dealing with database or replication corruption
- - General understanding of routine maintenance, database recovery, and handling failover of a database with expert knowledge of various Sybase replication topologies
- - Expert capability in Sybase performance and tuning toolsets to monitor and optimize the performance of the database
- - A solid understanding of Sybase and Oracle or MSSQL design and architecture to advise applications teams
- - Experience dealing with high demands of investment banking systems
- - Ability of work off hours and on weekends to provide DBA support
- - Experience in UNIX Shell Scripting and developing and debugging database procedures both for Sybase and Oracle (or power Shell for MSSQL)
- - General understanding of Client Server model, Operating systems, storage technologies, networking, and information security
- - Clear understanding of Database Architecture, Operating Systems, Client Server Architecture, Middleware and Hardware (Servers, SAN, Network) for guiding customers of proper security management
- - Excellent technical knowledge gained from hands on role
- - For Oracle, expert knowledge of RMAN, Dataguard, OEM, Audit Vault, plus third-party products such as Foglight, Precise, Imperva
Technical experience
- Expert knowledge of database administration on distributed platforms. Sybase and either Oracle or MSSQL
- Knowledge of the ITIL framework and best practices
- Expert in working with Vendor technical support staff, including vendor development teams
- Expertise in defining technical plans and procedures
