Description
*Media Relations/Press Officer required for 12 week contract for a key public sector client based in East Renfrewshire*
Responsible to the Communcations Manager, the Media Officer will be responsible for providing a 24-hour responsive media relations service and generating national and regional print and broadcast coverage for the client.
Main Duties
- To provide a high quality media service.
- Co-ordinate day-to-day media relations and manage the client's media reputation.
- Identify and implement strategic communication projects
- Monitor and report on service performance indicators and media targets on a regular basis
- Co-ordinate the on-going development of the client's digital media presence
- Manage the web presence of departments on the website
- Regularly update and manage the client's online news centre
- Contribute to the planning and editorial production for a magazine
- Provide communications advice as and when required.
- Manage the media strategy
- Monitor and regularly review the media protocol
- Increase positive national news coverage
- Lead the development of the digital communications presence through Facebook and Twitter and new and emerging digital mediums.
- Manage the Council's online content
- Co-ordinate responses to media enquiries to deadline
- Proactively research, write and distribute press releases to targeted media as per service requirements
- Write case studies, speeches and articles
- Devise and coordinate photo opportunities
- Organise events including press conferences, exhibitions, open days and press tours
- Source and participate in speaking opportunities
- Identify PR opportunities/risks at the earliest opportunity.
- Issue the weekly media round up
- Manage the approval of media enquiries, statements and releases on behalf of departments
Essential
- Previous public relations experience in fast-moving PR environment.
- Experience of working in a busy media office.
- Experience in delivering highly visible communication strategies.
- Experience of managing PR to support events & income generation services.
- Expert working knowledge of digital communication channels.
- Relationship building with journalists, key influencers and external bodies.
- Able to assist with press conferences, media advice and support to senior colleagues.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Able to manage own workload and work to strict deadlines.
- Degree in PR, Communications or Media related equivalent
- Full UK driving licence.
