Description

We are currently seeking two ECDIS experts, to begin a permanent Software Design Engineer role based in the Maritime industry in New Malden.

This role will focus on creating a life saving software to be used on large ships.

You will conduct full-lifecycle software development, primarily on a well-established range of marine navigation equipment, including marine radar displays and electronic chart based equipment. Resultant products support both the commercial and naval markets.
More senior applicants will have additional responsibilities of team leadership and/or technical ownership of sub-systems.

Key responsibilities

Full-lifecycle software product development, primarily of marine navigation products, focusing on design, implementation and test.
Provision of technical assistance to internal and external stakeholders
Occasional liaison with internal and external stakeholders, potentially including supplier
Occasional travel both within the UK and further afield.
To be aware of and comply with Company Standards of Conduct and all relevant statutory requirements
To carry out any other reasonable management requests

Required skills

- Full ECDIS expertise
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or other numerate subject (2i or higher) or equivalent other qualification
- Software engineering experience, ideally in C#/.Net, alternatively strong candidates with C++ or Java experience will be considered
- Proficient in Microsoft Windows operating systems as a development and deployment platform
- Object Oriented Analysis and Design
- Full lifecycle experience
- Issue management tools
- Source code control tools
- Attention to detail
- Team player

Desirable skills
- Multi-threaded applications
- Tool based UML experience
- Use of Design patterns
- Networking experiencing (routing, VLAN, TCP/IP, UDP)
- Development for a - kiosk- style application
- Jira issue management toolset
- Mercurial & Subversion source code control
- DirectX
- GIS experience, preferably in the marine domain (e.g. S57/S101) (to assist marine charting SME)
- Peer reviews
