FINANCIAL COUNSELOR 2

Contract: 6 months (W2) (may extend and/or convert to permanent)

Location: Rockville, MD 20852

Client: One of the country's largest health care and health plan providers

Pay Rate: $19/hr

Standard Hours: M-F 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Some adjustment may be needed as scheduling conflicts arise.

Purpose: Coordinates all Medical Financial Assistance activities to support the Community Benefit Program
Essential Functions:

  • Prepares all MFA case files for eligibility review. Works with patients to identify and obtain all financial and related documents for the MFA application. This includes but is not limited to the gathering of tax forms, pay and bank statements, disability forms, SSA award letters, pension/annuity forms, applications, etc. Enters application data and other financial information into the MFA Solutions module in HealthConnect.
  • Performs all tasks associated with Patient Charity Adjustment Process (PCAP).
  • Manages all MFA cases once approved or denied by MFA Coordinator, MFA Manager or Management designee. Performs Auto approval of MFA awards for application requests within program guidelines, once verified by vendor.
  • Performs tasks associated with MFA work queues, as assigned.
  • Mails correspondence to the MFA applicants, including but not limited to approval letters, denial letters, and request for additional information.
  • Runs reports via vendor to verify Federal poverty level for all patients who apply for MFA.
  • Manages all pending cases for outstanding delinquent response cases.
  • Manages case load by identifying appropriate follow up time lines and next steps.

Required Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 1 year experience patient account management experience, such as charges payments, credit and debit analysis
  • 1 year charity care experience
  • 2 years' customer service experience
  • 2 years' Financial Counseling experience performing all aspects of the role; working with patients to collect balances or screen for financial assistance

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Experience in Microsoft Office; Word and Excel
  • Experience with electronic medical records
  • Knowledge of Epic suite of applications, Resolute, Prelude, EpiCare
