Description

An experienced Software Engineer/Developer/R&D Engineer is required to join a growing research and development team of a leading Digital TV, media and device testing specialist.

You will report to and work closely with our Project Managers in a dynamic, friendly and collaborative environment where excellence in software design and test is regarded highly; and in a team of expert engineers where agile development methodologies are employed to deliver that excellence to our customer-base.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, build and test our products, services and supporting tools.
  • Develop a deep understanding of relevant technical specifications, test requirements and information for multiple countries and platform configurations.
  • Contribute new ideas and improvements to the organisation.

You will need to demonstrate flexibility in approach and be willing to assist with all aspects of our work, including research, prototyping, design, implementation, documentation, testing and support.

Minimum Candidate Requirements

  • Upper second-class or equivalent degree in computer science, communications, electronic engineering or other technical or scientific subject.
  • >2 years commercial programming experience.
  • Ability to write software in Python and JavaScript, with knowledge of platforms and tools used to develop software.
  • Experience of testing, such as writing manual test cases or automated tests.
  • Can demonstrate an ability to approach problems creatively and work in a team to deadlines.
  • Can demonstrate an eye for detail, diligence, and enthusiasm for technology.
  • Good level of spoken and written English.
  • Willing to travel if necessary.

Relevant additional experience which would set a candidate apart:

  • Appreciation and experience of network/web-technologies (TCP/IP, content streaming, app authoring, HTML)
  • Knowledge of digital TV application layer environments such as HbbTV.
  • Familiarity with HbbTV, OIPF, DIAL specifications.
  • Knowledge of media formats, eg MPEG, H264, AAC, Dolby Digital, and experience in creating, modifying and analysing such media files.

We are particularly interested in people who are passionate about new technologies and particularly if you have an interest in digital tv (DTV, IPTV, DVB, MPEG), Hybrid broadcast broadband TV (HbbTV) or developing Digital TV applications (Video-on-demand, VoD, Catch-up services, content streaming).

Job Description

This role is a 6 month contract to either immediately or in January 2016 and is based in central Bristol within easy access of Bristol Temple Meads station.
