Database Developer ( Oracle/SQL/PL/SQL/Designer/Toad )
The contract is with a consultancy to be on an assignment at a large European site in Luxembourg as follows:-
The unit requires to the expertise of a Database Developer for the new Payment Factory application. The principle of the Payment factory (PF) is to streamline the payment process regardless of the business process generating the payments.
2. TASK DESCRIPTION
Non-exhaustive list of the tasks to be carried out:
Participate in all stages of database engineering life cycle, from entity relationships model to physical database design of Oracle databases
Perform data analysis and improve the data quality
Analyse, review, improve and document existing and future database components
Develop PL/SQL stored procedures, functions and packages that implement the business logic
Provide assistance to development team members in writing (complex) SQL queries
Provide expertise to improve the efficiency, quality and reliability
Maintain database schema's in multiple environments
Perform capacity planning and performance tuning
Provide expertise in areas pertaining to Oracle database technologies
Participate in defining and promoting best practices relating to database development
3. REQUIRED EXPERTISE
A specific expertise of minimum 15 years with Oracle data analysis, database design and database tuning is required.
Excellent knowledge of Oracle 11g features and concepts
Excellent knowledge in Datamodelling, database design, SQL & PL/SQL development
Strong analytical skills
Good reporting methods
Tools: Oracle*Designer, TOAD, SQL*Plus & Oracle utilities
Ability to work with a high degree of rigour and method
Ability to diagnose problems
Ability to liaise between users and technical development teams
A good knowledge of Unix Scripts is an asset
4. WORK ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS
The work will be carried mainly on the Commission's premises in Luxembourg but possible missions to Brussels could occur. The methodology used for development is based on RUP. All documents must be written in Word. Due to the particular nature of a large international organisation such as the European Commission, candidates should also have the following non-technical skills: Ability to work in multi-cultural environment, on a large project Ability to participate in multilingual meetings, ease of communication in French and English Ability to work in a team Ability to rapidly understand the business Ability to write documentation in French or English
