Computer Futures are currently working with a key client seeking an experienced Web Ops System Administrator to join their Redditch office.

Overview:

Reporting to the Web Operations Manager, the Senior Web Ops System Administrator will be responsible for improving and maintaining the availablility and performance of the sites, servers and network infrastructure for My client. They will also work closely with developers and product owners to ensure timely release of deployments, new sites and applications and introduction of new technologies.

They will be passionate about all aspects of system administration (both LAMP and Windows operating systems), web and technology in general, a strong team player with a desire to contribute, learn and grow their technology knowledge while ensuring high standards are met at all times.
  • Manage the day-to-day system administration of web, database servers, networks and build/release applications.
  • Manage the prompt and timely release of websites, applications and configuration updates across all environments.
  • Communicate in a professional manner with other teams, staff and suppliers to identify problems, scope, requirements and solutions to work requests.
  • Escalate to and work with the Web Operations Manager, engineers and development teams for incident management and root cause analysis of problems across environments.
  • Continually research new configuration methodologies and technologies to improve the performance of Immediate sites and automate build, release and configuration management.
  • Respond in a prompt and timely fashion to change, release and ad-hoc work requests; operational incidents and proactively seeking solutions to problems.
  • Keep internal documents and records relating to public and internal web infrastructure accurate and up to date.
  • Accurately estimate operational maintenance changes/windows.

  • At least two years' experience in a build / release role with a strong engineering mentality - strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude with outstanding written and verbal communication skills and an eye for detail.
  • Have a passion for Internet and web technologies.
  • Able to manage multiple concurrent projects, tasks and workloads.


Qualifications:
  • Solid experience of systems engineering and server administration of Linux (Centos) and Windows servers and corresponding web application stacks - Nginx, PHP, Apache, Varnish etc.
  • Good knowledge of clustered/high availability SQL and NoSQL database management - MySQL, Postgres, Mongo and MS SQL.
  • Must have in-depth knowledge of Puppet. Knowledge and experience of version control, Github and build, deploy, release and configuration management applications - ideally in a multi-site CI environment.
  • Strong knowledge of ActiveMQ.
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals - load balancing - and Internet technologies (DNS).
  • Good understanding of Internet core technologies - DNS, SSL, HTTP - and performance, caching and CDN technologies - Amazon Cloud Front/Akamai.
  • Good understanding of cloud architectures - RackSpace/Amazon.
  • Experience of managing numerous websites, applications and technologies in fast paced, rapidly changing, environments.
