Cloud Platforms Networking Engineer - Edinburgh - 6 months
Our Edinburgh based client has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Cloud Platforms Networking Engineer for an initial 6 month contract.
The successful candidate will work within the Cloud Platform Team and undertake a number of technology refresh projects.
Essential Knowledge/Background:
* Taking active part in the team's and department's Agile culture by learning and putting into practice the VFQ disciplines
* Managing workloads using Kanban techniques and/or other team defined methodologies
* Take part in the design, planning and deployment of new technologies (e.g. Citrix VDI, RHEL server re-platforming, MS Lync UC, VCE VXBlock, etc) as skills and experience allow
* Managing server and application health, integrity and currency to an acceptable level
* Managing private Cloud platform health, availability, integrity and currency to an acceptable level
* Ensure appropriate access controls are in place, monitored and adhered with
* Monitor, manage and where necessary improve performance of systems to meet the expectations of the end-users
* Work within multi-skilled DevOps teams where skills allow and the need arises
* Perform planned OS and software upgrades/patching to servers and/or virtual desktops when the need arises
* Perform planned platform upgrades/patching when the need arises
* Create and maintain system and network documentation as appropriate (e.g. MS Visio diagrams, system admin docs and local work instructions (LWI))
* Control access permissions and privileges where required to all systems and data
* Ensure all software applications and virtual server instances are being backed up
* Attend both team and wider departmental meetings, stand ups, show and tell meetings and town hall meetings
* Troubleshoot and resolve any server OS and application estate related issues; provide guidance to other ICT technical teams on issues that fall within own skill areas
Essential Skills
* CCNP certified
* Enterprise network support experience
* LAN / WAN networking knowledge
* Expert knowledge of IP, routing and other networking technologies
* Expert knowledge of cisco products and Cisco IOS
* Expert knowledge of MDS storage fabric networking concepts
* Expert knowledge of Cisco UCS networking features and technologies
* Expert knowledge of Cisco & checkpoint firewalling and security hardware
