We are currently looking for an experienced Press Officer for a 4 months contract within the public sector based in Reading. The ideal candidate should have a strong knowledge of the public sector and strong experience working with the media.

Holding a Disclosure Scotland - BPSS will be advantageous with this role although candidates willing to undergo this will be considered.

Job Overview
Press Officers work as part of small specialist teams in the press office.
They have particular portfolios with subjects they are responsible for offering media handling advice to different on these areas.
Working with one other Media Manager (Press Officer) and a Head of Media, you will be responsible for the press handling.
You will own, drive forward and deliver the Agency's press handling strategies and all reactive and proactive media/social media activity.

Job Duties
Experience of working in a high-profile, fast-paced press office, handling reactive media queries, preferably previous experience in public sector communications.
Experience of generating, writing and placing pro-active press articles.
Ability to think creatively to instigate press campaigns to support business objectives.
An expert at using and developing social media as a key part of press work.
Practiced at using insight to develop plans that have measurable communication objectives that support business objectives, are tailored to the audience and take into account the emerging news agenda.
Experience of anticipating the emerging news agenda and acting to manage an organisation's reputation - being on the front-foot and minimising negative media coverage.
Ability to initiate and lead reactive and proactive integrated media campaigns that demonstrate flexible, creative thinking, build on insight, use tracking data, use the most appropriate and cost-effective channel mix, maximise digital channels, identify risks and plan mitigating actions
Proven ability to handle high-profile and sensitive media issues and providing a clear and trusted brief to media and colleagues.
Strong written communication skills.
Ability to develop and deliver dashboards to support timely evaluation and identify lessons learnt
