Description

An Embedded Linux Engineer is required to join one of the worlds largest and most reputable companies.

At their Northampton site they provide industrial software, control systems and computing platforms, enabled by the Industrial Internet, to optimize their customers' assets, processes and equipment. You will find opportunities to use your skills and expertise to work across industries including power, manufacturing, water, mining, oil & gas, defense and aerospace.

The Embedded Linux Software Engineer will be developing software and firmware for embedded Single Board Computer and Sensor Processing products. In this role, you will develop, implement, validate and test embedded software components such as firmware, device drivers, Board Support Packages (BSPs), I/O fabric frameworks as well as user space code. You will produce and support high-quality products to exacting software engineering standards for demanding customers. You will also produce firmware, device drivers, Board Support Packages (BSPs) and associated software components for a number of Linux distributions such as Yocto, Red Hat, Scientific and Wind River.

* Provide guidance to other engineers on working with the Open Source Community

* Provide timely customer support on issues related to Linux implementations

* Develop key expertise and drive best practice within the Linux development team

* Produce draft customer documentation for processing and deployment by the Tech Publications group

* Participate in continuous improvement of Software Development Processes The ideal candidate will be able to boast the following:

* Degree (or equivalent experience) in Electronics, Computer Science, or related discipline

* Proven years working in an embedded software environment with Linux

* Strong understanding of C as well as Linux kernel and driver development

* Strong problem-solving and creative, solution-building skills * Strong verbal and written communication skills

* Ability to work successfully in a team environment

* Understanding and interest in applying embedded software and electronic hardware to military and aerospace products
