Description
Simulation and Modelling Engineer required for initial six month contract in Hertfordshire for a multi national defence company.
The role is for a team member in Simulation and Modelling Department in Stevenage. The role includes responsibility for development and maintenance of the Brimstone performance models.
Developing, maintaining and modifying system models as assigned by the Project Team Leader. Participation in developing, maintaining and modifying existing models. This will require modification of the model design in line with specifications or change requests and ensuring all quality and technical standards are achieved to ensure all standards are maintained. Investigation and analysis will be required into a wide range of problems, either individually or in conjunction with the project team.
Specifying tests and produce appropriate test harnesses to support the model testing or comparisons with software results. Analysis of test results will be required, and to make recommendations based on the results.
To provide training and technical expertise on the use of the models to project members as required.
Full responsibility for all associated documentation to support all necessary activities (design, test, use, limitations, software acceptance).
Full responsibility for ensuring that for the assigned tasks the software design record is fully maintained and compliant with company standards.

Performance Indicators:
Skills and Knowledge:
Degree (or equivalent) in a numerate/engineering discipline. Plus demonstrable modelling experience.
Good coding skills in FORTRAN 77, FORTRAN 90 and C.
Knowledge of modelling tools such as Matlab/Simulink, Visual Studio, Dimensions and other development environments.
An understanding of underlying mathematics (axes transformations, aerodynamics, dynamics, etc.) ie able to work from first principles
Good analytical skills - the ability to recognize the correct level of detail of modelling required.
Full understanding of Modelling processes.
Good communication and documentation and presentation skills, taking into account the audience/reader.
Ability to successfully analyse the impact of model developments on system behaviour and model results.
