Installation Technician- Contract - Gloucestershire - Excellent Rates!

The Installation Technician is to work in conjunction with the Installation Team Leaders in order to promote timely responses and resolutions to project changes and issues for the duration of tasks.

Main Accountabilities:

  • The Installation Technician is responsible for providing electrical and/or mechanical installation and maintenance activities within the communications community to specified standards, whilst ensuring quality and delivery on time and within budget.
  • The Installation Technician is to work in conjunction with the Installation Team Leaders in order to promote timely responses and resolutions to project changes and issues for the duration of tasks.
  • To assist the Installation Team Leader, to ensure that all installation related documentation is submitted to the customer for approval prior to undertaking any site work and on completion of all tasks; including method statements and risk assessments.
  • Ensuring that all systems are installed to engineering standards, as dictated by professional bodies, ensuring best practice is employed in all installation activities.
  • To assist the Installation Team Leader and/or Senior Technician, where possible, to liaise with the Project Manager for notification of delays to ensure customer expectations can be managed and mitigating actions put in place.
  • Advise of potential engineering solutions to technical problems encountered during workshop system builds and remote installation activities.
  • To ensure they work in a safe and efficient manner at all times to produce quality assured products.
  • Maintain the values of LEAN.
  • Ensure that all activities undertaken are in compliance with Installation QMS processes.

Additional accountabilities:

  • Responsible, when required, for the completion of all documentation relevant to any task undertaken.
  • Assist the Installation Team Leader to act as the prime customer interface for the duration of all on site activities.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all Installation activities comply with all standards.
  • Accurate completion of the following:
    • Accurate time recording and checking of returned hours;
    • Accurate return and checking of claims forms;
    • Health & Safety compliance;
    • Lean methodology;
    • Toolbox checks;
  • To follow the requirements of Lean, there should be a continual review of the process and procedures to ensure an evolving culture. To ensure the installation employees follow the principles of 5S:
  • Sort: identifying usage trends and the removal of unused equipment;
  • Set: designated locations (everything has a place and everything in its place);
  • Shine: cleanliness; keep it looking right;
  • Standardise: everyone follows the same procedures; and
  • Sustain: ingrain into the working culture.

Knowledge, Qualification and Experience: The Installation Technician should possess all general skills and either one of the other core skills and be competent in assisting the installation management team.

Skills and Competencies

  • Must possess good interpersonal skills and be able to form good relationships with customers and external groups.
  • Developed application in electrical installation field and departmental awareness.
  • Basic IT installation skills.
  • Strong and positive attitude.
  • Requires good self-motivation and self-starting.
  • Strong IT literacy including a strong understanding of maximising the effective utilisation of technology.
  • Understanding of Defence industry (desirable).

Mechanical

  • Time served mechanical apprenticeship.
  • Relevant, practical experience in a related environment.
  • Consistent application in related work.
  • Company supplied familiarisation training.
  • Is open-minded in trying new ideas
  • Listens to other people's points of view
  • Reviews current working practices to improve quality and efficiency
