Analysing and interpreting medical terminology as written by clinicians and professions allied to medicine then translating into a statistical code using the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems alongside the National Classification of interventions and Procedures.
Clinical coders come under the health informatics staff groups in the NHS whose knowledge and skill allow for information to be collected thus supporting the delivery of healthcare, promoting health and supporting payment systems.
