Digital and Programmable Logic Design Engineer (Senior FPGA Engineer)

Purpose of the role

The Digital and Programmable Logic Design Engineer will provide expertise in digital circuit design and programmable logic design and verification using a hardware description language, for a major nuclear Instrumentation and Control project.

Producing high quality, readable and maintainable designs in VHDL; the verification of VHDL designs using test benches; the process to realize VHDL designs into a physical device including producing suitable constraints; and high speed digital circuit design and providing board layout guidance.

Using Actel and Xilinx FPGA design tools; configuration control using subversion; producing scripts to control FPGA development tools; industry standard serial interfaces such as RS-485; interfacing to analogue electronics; and the use of Altium Designer would be an advantage. All in a high integrity development environment

Key Responsibilities
  • To produce appropriate designs, technical reports, specifications and drawings as required in the execution of allocated work packages
  • The review and verification of technical reports, drawings and designs for safety, functionality and compliance against requirements
  • Delivering services to the correct quality, on time and to agreed costs
  • To provide subject matter expertise in the domain area
  • To provide technical support to project managers
  • To provide technical leadership and mentoring to other engineers
  • To ensure all work in their area is carried out ethically, safety and in accordance with the relevant standards and best practices
  • To work in compliance with company policies and processes
